sickness in early pregnancy is one of the loneliest things I've ever experienced.

How did it go OP? Are you home now?

shoopshoopsong · 27/08/2015 09:20

Am home now thank you sarky the doctor gave me another lot of medication to try and has said in 2 days if they don't make an improvement will have to go on IV drip. I feel so selfish to be miserable but I can't help it.

Sorry, the iPhone app went down so have only just read your reply.

What medication have you been given?

Don't feel selfish. I assume this is HG? as a second time sufferer I can completely understand why you're miserable. Heck I'm miserable too! Being constantly sick is shit! It is just as draining mentally as it is physically, don't feel bad about the how you're feeling you're not being selfish you're being human, who the hell wouldn't feel miserable if they was vomiting so much it warrants medication to control it?

How far gone are you? Hopefully it won't stick around for long and your tablets will kick in soon. If these tablets don't work for you remember there are numerous other types you can try.

I can't promise speedy replies as the phone app has been removed but please feel free to PM me anytime Smile

I've had 2 HG pregnancies, and was in and out of hospital in both of to about 15 weeks. I totally understand what you mean about pregnancy sickness being lonely. Feeling so rough you can't move, frustrating how you can't make people understand how bad you feel, totally unable to do anything other than lie still.

Boo! To the unsympathetic GP. You can go to A&E if you get worse, or very dehydrated (dark wee), they may well be more proactive.

Are you able to get (and keep) fluids down? I found I could manage a bit of cold, fizzy water and cheap ice lollies! Virtually no food until about 16 weeks.

Don't worry about your baby, it will be OK.

BikeRunSki · 28/08/2015 07:13

this site might help

shoopshoopsong · 30/08/2015 12:17

Sorry for late reply app doesn't let me log in anymore.

I'm only 9 weeks - my last pregnancy the sickness didn't stop til 35 weeks though it was more bearable at about 25. I really don't know how I'll cope if it's like that this time round!

The out of hours doctor gave be Buccastem which did help but have discovered shouldn't be taken by pregnant women which I am beyond upset about being given now. Surely being put on a drip would have been better than a potentially harmful drug?!
Am taking avomine from diffetent doctor and sepia and ipacec from homeopath now and has given me some relief this weekend and have been able to keep down most fluids so am hoping this will last longer than the 2 days of relief I got last prescription!

sarkymare · 30/08/2015 18:24

Who told you buccastem was harmful? I've been prescribed them by a consultant during both of my pregnancies as have many other pregnant women I know.

Btw you may as well delete the app as it has been taken offline permanently I believe (there's a thread in site stuff) There should be a new app released within a couple of weeks though Smile

shoopshoopsong · 30/08/2015 18:40

Well hopefully it's not harmful them. It said on the packet not to be taken by pregnant women.. When you know it usually says 'unless recommended by doctor' it didn't have that bit and so I panicked and did the awful thing of googling. I thought it was because its relatively new and so effects aren't known. Hopefully I'm wrong then, that'd be really good!
When I went back to my GP they said avomine should be the only thing prescribed to pregnant women?! Which is obviously rubbish because I've had lots of others. I never get to see the same doctor twice which probably doesn't help..

BikeRunSki can I ask when you went to hospital did you contact the early pregnancy dept? I think I made a mistake going to the out of hours doctor who poked my belly really hard it hurt and made me wretch.. But I was desperate at 1am.

OP posts:
sarkymare · 30/08/2015 18:53

I've never bothered with out of hours and have always just gone straight to A&E if I felt I was ill enough to need medical attention. It never mattered how full the waiting room was I was always seen by triage and sent straight to the gynae ward for fluids within half an hour.

If you become dehydrated and feel like you need IV fluids then bypass your doctor completely and head to A&E they will get you sorted.

shoopshoopsong · 30/08/2015 19:14

Thankyou sarky, I will do that next time. May I ask how long you were on Buccastem for? Because I did find it better than most others

OP posts:
sarkymare · 30/08/2015 19:24

I was on them for about 2 months as my main antisickness but then started using them along side cyclazine and metraclopromide as they stopped being as effective after a few weeks.

I still use them occasionally now if I'm very sick as of course you don't have to swallow them so are ideal when you cannot keep down the necessary drop of water to take a tablet with.

shoopshoopsong · 30/08/2015 20:31

Yeah that's what I liked about them cos you know you're not just gonna throw it back up! Thanks for your help. Are you still pregnant or was this a while ago?

I really feel for you! My morning sickness wasn't even that bad in comparison to what you are suffering but I found it unbearable and very isolating! This is my first pregnancy and all I kept thinking was why did nobody tell me how awful this feels and never to get pregnant! I'm 19 weeks now and feeling better, I feel so sorry for people who are sick for their whole pregnancy. I have a real new respect and empathy for women like you who suffer what is essentially long term illness.
think if people really sat and thought about how awful it be to have a tummy bug for months and months with no break they would be thinking 'how the fuck is she still alive ntm growing another human!'

Don't feel guilty you can't be expected to enjoy something that is making you feel so awful! The only advice I can think of is B6, I really noticed I was much more pukey when I forgot to take it, vs just nausea when I remembered.

Good luck, I hope you start to feel better soon! Xox

sarkymare · 30/08/2015 20:55

I'm 33 weeks pregnant now but my first pregnancy was identical in terms of sickness and the treatment/medication for it so my advice and experience come from both pregnancies really.

shoopshoopsong · 30/08/2015 23:11

thanks summer. I always wanted a big family but think this (2nd) if works out will have to be my last which is hard for some to understand.

sarky - are you doing much better now? in my last pregnancy at that stage and beyond I was starting to feel better, when others around me slowed down at that stage. I was relieved and energised to be less sick!

OP posts:
sarkymare · 30/08/2015 23:45

Ooh yes I'm doing a hell of a lot better now. I'm taking ondandestrone daily which keeps the sickness (mostly) at bay and I feel so much healthier and happier for it. I have far more good days than bad now and I can actually leave the house without the fear of projectile vomiting on a unsuspecting member of the public!

I'm hoping the sickness is coming to a natural end and I can stop taking the meds completely over the next few weeks.

shoopshoopsong · 31/08/2015 10:25

That's fantastic!
