Twins pregnancy question

I'm 21 weeks pregnant today with twin boys. So excited!!

I just wondered how everyone was feeling who were also having twins? I've been lucky so far with sickness etc. I have dips in tiredness but other than that great. Just waiting for it all to hit me! X

Hi izzie. Congrats. I'm only 7 weeks and have just found out I'm having twins. So worried after a Mmc last year. I feel fine too. Interested to hear how you felt at this point? X

TitusAndromedon · 21/08/2015 13:49

I'm 24+2, also with two boys. I've been lucky in that I haven't had much sickness, but I have found things increasingly difficult in the past few weeks. My hips and back are very sore and I'm currently in hospital having some tests done to find out why I'm getting heart palpitations and dizziness. So far there isn't a reason, though, so I have a feeling that it's just one of those things.

I've found the increased limitation on my physical activity to be hard, but on the plus side the babies are very active and looked brilliant on their growth scan this morning, so it's all swings and roundabouts!

Izzie251 · 21/08/2015 19:34

Aww congratulations to you both. Before I found out I was having twins I was so tired and hungry! Could not believe I was loosing a few pounds as because I was eating so much, when I found out it was twins the midwife had said they were taking all my energy supply so made sense. I had a few sickness days, nothing bad (just felt sick) it just felt like a hangover so got sickness bands to help but other than that I was fine. I've been so lucky as have friends who are pregnant with 1 who have been a lot worse!!

That's a shame, when will you get the results? Or do they just now know? How do you feel?

My hip / back was sore a few weeks ago when I was trying to sleep but it's been fine now. Do you have one of those nursing pillows?

I've noticed when I walk up and down stairs I am getting much slower. Actually it's probably when I walk in general too. I've out on 9kg too, more so the last few weeks. Have you noticed a difference?

It's so mad to think you have 2 babies in your tummy. X

I'm 20 weeks with boy/girl twins. I have a toddler too so my overwhelming symptom is just sheer exhaustion. Luckily, DD still naps so I get a much need break.

I've found this pregnancy much more challenging than my singleton. I started getting pain in my pelvis and hip at 16 weeks and it was painful to walk. But I saw a chiropractor who snapped everything back into place and I've been alright for the last month.

Wyawc4 · 21/08/2015 21:41

What kind of twins are you all having? When did you find out? X

TitusAndromedon · 21/08/2015 21:43

They think my palpitations and dizziness could be either something to do with my heart or something with my blood sugar levels, or it might just be one of those things. I'm in hospital overnight while they continue monitoring me.

I have all the pillows on the world at home! Plus a duvet folded under my fitted sheet for extra cushioning. I mentioned the pain to the consultant today and he pretty much said that with twins, it's standard. Have you been prescribed baby aspirin? He also gave me a prescription for that today.

Although I'm finding things hard going, everyday things happen that make up for it. So, today my husband felt them move (he couldn't catch them at the right time before today) and we also realised that we can see them moving through my stomach, which is so weird!

All respect to you Bluish. I don't think I could possibly cope with a toddler alongside all this.

Jelliebabe1 · 21/08/2015 21:54

Hi I'm 29 + 6 with twins! And I've been absolutely fine so far! I did have a few palpitations but consultant want overly worried in fact at my last appointment she time me I was glowing! Considering I am 40 with a high bmi too I consider that a real compliment!

So congratmalations and enjoy it, go with the flow, hopefully you won't have any problems at all!

Izzie251 · 21/08/2015 22:26

Mine are in separate sacks with a placenta each so non identical. I found out at 12 week scan.

This may sound like a silly question but the palpitations you got, did it just feel like your heart was beating really fast and you felt beating through your skin? Or how did you know? I've had that a few times but just thought I was imaging it but I know I'm not. It's just at night I have had it.

That's a good idea with the duvet!! I just keep one between my knees at the minute.

The doctor prescribed me 75mg of aspirin a day for the babies blood pressure, is that what you have?

My tummy moved for the first time tonight and my partner caught a movement. It was a great feeling. X

That's exactly what the palpitations felt like. It's usually combined with dizziness for me. I also get dizzy two or three times a day and have to lie down until it passes. I get it randomly. I only mentioned it to the consultant because it had just happened while waiting in the waiting room before my growth scan. I didn't expect him to spring into action, but I have a history of heart disease on my mom's side, so it's just as well that they check everything out. Maybe the aspirin will help?

My boys are also non-identical. How are you getting on with the name decisions?

Wyawc4 · 22/08/2015 07:29

Sounds like you are all coping amazingly. Giving me some inspiration anyway. It looks like mine may be separate sacs, 1 placenta. Worried as I understand that introduces more risk, but I'll get to 12 weeks before I worry about that. 1 milestone at a time! At least the summer hasn't been too hot.

Will you all be having them early? X

bluishskies · 22/08/2015 07:36

Mine are DCDA, so 2 sacs and 2 placentas. I have no clue when I will be delivering them but I assume it won't be at 40 weeks. I'll ask my consultant about it at my next appointment. Has anyone been told anything yet about labour?

Izzie251 · 22/08/2015 07:52

That's exactly how I think, take each day/week as it comes.

Ah! I'll monitor it and see if it gets worse, I thought it might just be excitement thinking about them lol. I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks. I haven't had dizziness yet.

Im struggling with names!! We have 1 possible but so difficult for 2. what about you?

I was just told at 20 week scan that they aim to deliver naturally but depends on their position. In my hospital notes it says aim for deliver 36/37 weeks. They said it will be discussed nearer the time though...

I changed my mat leave from 35 weeks to 31 weeks. Feel as it a weight as been lifted off my shoulders as I get public transport (car then train) into work. It would have been a nightmare close to Christmas!!

Have you's noticed changes in your bump? Mine was just like a bloated belly up to 17/18 weeks and has just popped out!! Not notice much change going from 20/21 weeks yet but now looks like I'm about 6 months pregnant.

Apart from the obvious what happens at the growth scan? How long were you in there for? X

TitusAndromedon · 22/08/2015 08:11

The growth scan was great, although I think some of that was because the sonographer was really informative. She measured the circumference of each head, the abdomen and the femur. She also checked the amount of fluid in each sac and checked that the umbilical cords were working properly. Then she used all those measurements to determine how much each baby weighed, though I'm under the impression that the weight estimates aren't hugely reliable. Twin A is 1lb 8oz and Twin B is 1lb 9oz.

We've got one name definitely decided, but we're in negotiations on the second one. I find boys' names really difficult!

I've been told that if Twin a stays head down, which he has been since the 12 week scan, then they'll induce me at 37 weeks. If he moves, then they'll discuss scheduling a c-section. My big fear is delivering Twin A naturally and then ending up with a c-section on Twin B.

Are you getting much heartburn? I'm hoping it means the babies will have lots of hair, but I'm powering through the Rennies!

TitusAndromedon · 22/08/2015 08:13

Meant to say, the growth scan probably took 15-20 minutes.
