Less movement with a low lying placenta?

I am not worried as I know it is still early but I was just wondering? I remember someone saying to me that if you have a low lying, Anteria placenta you are less likely to feel movement from baby.

Is this true?

I am only 15+1 weeks and I know it is still early to feel anything yet but this is my 3rd and I felt no.2 at 15 weeks for sure. A few weeks ago I was sure I was feeling baby but I haven't felt anything for over a week now so think it was probably wind before. I do know baby is well, I have a doppler so can hear the heartbeat with no problems. I'm just anxious to know if the placenta thing is true so that I don't keep thinking I shoukd be feeling things.

Any Experience from you lovely ladies?

I don't know if it's true but had low lying with both of mine and sometimes didn't feel them at all?? Don't worry hun although if you're anything like me you will

hi

anterior placenta definitely has an impact on how and when you feel the babies movements....

still quite early days, but the lack of movement is more likely to be due to the positioning of the placenta, sort of cushioning you from the movements, than anything sinister.

BTW - does the doppler not worry you, in case you can;t find the heartbeat IFYSIM?

lulumama · 25/11/2006 21:21

what i mean is..the baby isn't moving less..you are feeling less...IIRC.

LadyOfThePoinsettias · 25/11/2006 21:22

my placenta was attatched to the front wall with ds2 so i felt less as you cant feel through it because its so thick. that's what they told me anyway.

Frenchsmallfry · 26/11/2006 11:19

Thank you

Lulumama, my doppler hasn't worried me yet, I am fully aware that in the early weeks it can be difficult to find the heartbeat. Although I have to say I have only had one experience of not finding it after about 10 minutes. I decided to go to the loo and jump around a bit and then try again. I found it straight away then. I didn't panic too much. For me I have to say it has been nothing but reasuring, I have been using it this pg'cy from 9 weeks. I don't use it every day, maybe about 3 times a week.

I still believe they are a very personal thing to own and I believe you have to be the "right" kind of person to own one. I don't ever recommend them to people as I'm sure it could just freak some people out. It works for me but thats just me.

I have a low-lying anterior placenta and I didn't really feel proper movements til about 20 weeks so don't panic. I'm 25 weeks now and being properly assualted by the baby!

awayinamuppet · 26/11/2006 12:39

Forgot to add it is also my third and I felt movement earlier with my other 2 so was concerned/puzzled just like you!

Moomin · 26/11/2006 12:52

I had low lying anterior placenta with both my pregs which ended up as placenta praevia both times. I felt both of them quite a bit from about 18 wks for dd1 and 14 weeks from dd2. Movement was mostly at either side though as both babies were lying across me most of the time as they couldnt move round much.

Frenchsmallfry · 26/11/2006 13:00

Don't like the sound of the placenta praevia bit.

Didn't feel a thing at all until 18 weeks+ with the second.

fruitful · 26/11/2006 16:42

You have something like a 90% chance of not having placenta praevia (after having a low-lying placenta at 20 weeks). And you're not even 20 weeks yet so the odds are actually much better than that. Most placentas are pretty low at 15 weeks cos the placenta is quite big and the womb is quite small.

I felt movement at 15 weeks with second baby (and a placenta that was attached to my cs scar). But it could have been wind. Heck, I thought I felt a baby kick this morning and I know I'm not pregnant.

Frenchsmallfry · 26/11/2006 16:46

Thanks for that fruitful, the odds are re-assuring. Not something I experienced with either of my first two. They were both text book pg'cy's. I'm hoping it will move before. So not worried yet.

Somebody said, no.3 can be trouble.

as the uterus grows the placenta is often moved out of the way of the cervical os ....there are 4 grade of Placenta previa.the first two generally allow a vagianl delivery...and odds are good that it will have moved anyway....whatever happens, you will be rescanned and told in plenty of time to prepare x

thanks re the doppler....i know i would have driven myself mad with it !! x

southeastastra · 26/11/2006 19:35

i had a grade three pp. i could always feel my son kicking on the left hand side, quite low.

Frenchsmallfry · 26/11/2006 20:37

Wich way does the grading go. 1 worse - 4 or the other way round.

Sorry xxx

grade 4 is the worst

Moomin · 26/11/2006 21:46

It's really rare though so not something you should worry yourself with like others have said. You wouldn't even get a diagnosis of this until 32 weeks and they won't give you a 32 week scan if the 20 week scan is ok.

taffy101 · 26/11/2006 21:51

I had anterior placenta with dd and didn't feel her till about 22 weeks - was v. worried going for 20 week scan but of course it explained everything. Placenta had moved upwards plenty in time for birth. Also had low lying placenta with ds but it was posterior so I felt everything and his also got out of the way (just in time at 38 weeks)

Frenchsmallfry · 27/11/2006 12:23

Thank you for your post. I saw my midwife today, she checked my notes from my scan and said that it is only marginal so that is better than I thought. I am in France and the language barrier can sometimes cause a problem between my gnyne and me. My midwife(sage femme) speaks pretty good English thankfully.

Moomin, I will get a 33 week scan here, they are procedure. 12, 22 & 33 weeks. So pleny of time to check progress. I am not worried yet. One good thing about it is that with a low lying placenta they will not do the internal checks once a month. Also procedure here. Maybe placenta can hang around there for a few more mths to get me out of them.
