Mirena coil removal tomorrow

So I've finally made the appointment to have my coil removed! So excited but nervous at the same time..
I've had a lot of trouble with the coil since the day I've had it in. A lot of pain and discomfort, and now we're ready to start trying for DC2, I'm relieved to get the blasted thing out.

Although, I'm worried it's going to hurt? Because of the issues I've been having, I'm scared the doctor is going to look up turn around and say that it's caught on the wall of my uterus or something daft like that. Can anyone advise on what I can expect?

Also, do I class tomorrow as day 1 of my cycle? I haven't had a period since about Christmas time so I have no idea where I would go from if I don't class tomorrow and the first day. I want to have one natural period before we officially start trying so need to know when the best days are to not DTD.

Any help will be much appreciated SmileFlowers

I had mine out yesterday having had a hideous six months of bleeding on it. It didn't hurt at all coming out Smile

Mine was, shall we say, a tad sore going in, so I was a bit apprehensive. However, getting it out was pain free - literally, I barely felt it.

To expect: usual position on back, she'll pop a speculum in and grab the strings with forceps, then get you to exhale and pull it out. I barely felt it.

No, it isn't day 1 of your cycle - you need to wait for a full cycle to occur before you can date anything. You don't need to wait to ttc though! You can get pregnant as soon as its out if you're at the right point in your cycle. Obviously then you'd need a scan to date accurately but that's not really an issue. :)

It can take them a while to get hold of the strings - She did have to have a good old rummage around in there ..."oh god I need a third hand in here there's no room to point the flashlight and hold the forceps..grumble grumble" which made me laugh so hard we had to stop for a moment...

Post removal I had a couple of slightly cramps days, periods were back to regular soon and conceived within a few months. Good luck!

Thank you so much Skipton, that's so helpful!

I'm relieved to hear it's pain free to be removed! And sometimes quite humorous too!!

I know we don't have to wait, but we're getting married soon and I don't want to risk being pregnant on the big day!

Ok, well I think I had my 'period' a couple of weeks ago as I had all the normal symptoms, but without the bleeding! I'll just wait for a period and use willy hats in the meantime Smile

Thanks again for all your help!! Smile

Notsoyummymummy23 I had mine out at the end of June and was pain free. .After 5 years ... a few days later I had a whopping ten day period and started ttc after that... I'm now 7 weeks pg so it can happen quickly xx

ashtrayheart · 20/08/2015 20:38

I had mine out at the same time as a smear the other day, over in a flash and pain free Smile

Empem288 · 20/08/2015 21:27

Notso.. Everyone's experience is different but I had mine out mid feb last year and got a BFP 23rd March.. Sadly had a mc at approx 7 weeks but as I hadn't had a period was tricky to date the pregnancy. One reason they did give me was as the coil interferes with the womb lining (stops it forming) and I hadn't had a period before conceiving there was prob nothing there for the egg to embed in to.

They advise to have a least one full cycle before TTC and I would 2nd that n wish we had been more careful till I'd done a cycle but you never know!
Good luck Smile

Empem I'm so sorry to hear that. This is one of the reasons why I wanted it out a bit earlier so I could allow for one period before we TTC.

I had a little discomfort when she pulled it out, but nothing compared to when it went in! So happy it's finally out and looking forward to starting Smile

Thanks for all your help.

Have you found the MN Conception topic?

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/conception

You might find helpful info in there.

(I'd assumed from topic/title that this was going to be a thread about being pregnant with a coil in situ)
