Possibility of Polyhydramnios, additional scan needed WORRIED!

Hi Ladies,
This is my second pregnancy and I am expecting a boy and I already have a three and a half year old daughter.

Many people have commented that my bump looks very big considering I am only 28+6 and I have been to a midwife appointment today. She measured me and realised that I was a lot larger than she thought I should be. She felt my bump and said that the baby doesn't feel extra large so she is sending me for a scan to check for Polyhydramnios (excess fluid around the baby). I have also had low blood pressure and have been feeling out of breath lately but she put that down to a combination of where the baby is lying and my low blood pressure.

I stupidly googled what Polyhydramnios was and now I'm a bit worried. Just wondered if anyone else has had this? If so what happened? Was the baby ok?

I had this with dd, found out after a routine m/w appt at 36wks as I was measuring 6 wks bigger. I got sent for a scan the following wk where they diagnosed it and also the fact that dd was laying transverse. I was booked for a section at 39 wks and told any signs of labour to come straight in as you are at risk of the cord coming with the water. A week later my waters went on their own after a little bit of bleeding and I had a emergency section cos dd wasn't coping with the contractions.
All was fine and no panic really other than the amount of water that come away-it was a shocking amount Shock
Don't be alarmed and def don't google to much. Just watch out for any changes. Baby may also struggle to get in the head down position because the water stops them

I had polyhydraminos too. It was found at 32 weeks, had to have a glucoose tolerance test as it can indicate gestational diabetes and a scan to check for cleft palate etc as it might indicate baby isn't swallowing. Both clear in my case.
Dd was born at term plus three after my waters went with a gush but I had a normal delivery. It can also be a marker for neurological abnormalities and dd has autism but ds has autism too and I didn't have polyhydraminos with him

Hi, I posted earlier about measuring large for dates, I had a smiling experience yesterday with the mid wife. I am 28+5 and measuring very large, I am being sent for a scan next week to check for additional fluid (polyhydramnious) and for the baby's size as she was unsure whether it was down to fluid or size of baby. I also had bloods taken to check blood sugars in case it is baby that is large and not extra fluid. I'm not worrying too much- I did Google polyhydramnious and get a bit worried but there is no point really until the scan. I have a scan then consultant appointment soy understanding is they will tell me then if there are any issues. Hopefully just a big baby!

I have polyhydramnios, they found my levels were 26cm at a growth scan, they have me all the worst case scenario stuff, prem labour, cord prolapse, risk of placental abruption and looked on the scan at his mouth and stomach (both normal) and decided to admit me overnight for monitoring. Repeat glucose test clear, blood tests fine, seriously apart from the baby having a little more water to swim in everything has been normal since. Got another scan tomorrow to see if levels have changed. I have 5 weeks left, but i have to be prepared for him to make an early appearance.

Mumsrthebest, yes let's keep in touch, good luck with your appointment. I guess what I was saying was that there is no way for the midwife to know just with measurements as it is pretty inaccurate. My midwife was saying it is hard to tell where my uterus starts so it could be that she is measuring the wrong place. So don't google and think the worst! Sorry for the typos in my last post, was writing in a hurry on my phone!

I had this with my youngest son (had the opposite issue with ds1) - he was born by emcs at 39 weeks following me going in to labour. The section was due to another issue with my pelvis which means I can't deliver naturally, so nothing to do with the polyhydramnios. He was big (10lbs) but perfectly healthy. I did have a pph afterwards, but had similar with ds1 and he had very low fluid.

I had quite a few extra scans in the end with both boys, which was lovely, and felt like I got really close monitoring, so try not to fret (easier said than done I know). I am now pregnant again and want to push for an extra growth scan at 30+ weeks just to check that I don't have fluid issues of one kind or another again.
