Breathing sensor for newborn... worth getting?

Has anyone used one?

Worth getting or not?

I'd like one to put my mind at rest, but friend used one (with a sensor-pad under baby) and said baby kept setting the alarm off accidentally!

We've already got a baby monitor but it just records sound and video, not movement or breathing. Baby will be sleeping in a travel-cot next to our bed for first 6months.

We have an Angelcare which we used for dd1 and now we're using it for dd2. Anyone with an ounce of common sense knows that they don't prevent SIDS, but they do provide reassurance and of course if baby does stop breathing for what ever reason then surely it's better to know sooner rather than later? I have used ours in the Moses basket with both girls with no problems and the only false alarms we had were due to the sensitivity needing adjusting, either that or I'd forget to turn it off when lifting baby out.

Not sure how they would work in a travel cot though as you'd need to find a way to get the wires through whilst keeping them safely out of babies reach at the same time. I would definitely recommend getting a crib or Moses basket with a stand if you can. It will make life so much easier, especially if you're sore after the birth.

You can get travel cots with a bassinet bit to prevent to much back bending. I have a Graco one that we used when DD was too big for moses basket but too young to go into her own room (full size cot wouldn't fit in our room). Now she's bigger we've just taken the bassinet section out. We also bought an additional travel cot mattress as the fold up one most come with a tent very comfy. Just a thought following some posters comments about travel cot being unsuitable.

Anyway, we have an Angelcare. I've only recently turned off the sensor mat (DD is 9m). She moves so much now it was going off a lot. I stopped going in straight away as I knew she'd just wriggled up the cot. Once I stopped getting alarmed by the alarm it seemed a bit pointless! We just have sound now.

It gave me great peace of mind before she became such a wriggler though.
