Water wipes instead of cotton and water?

They sell them in boots, I'm going to go and buy everything bulk nappies etc and saw these. Any good? I don't mind using cotton wool but if these are 99% water and 1% fruit extract then I don't really see any harm?? Would make life abut easier when out and about.

Didn't think about the mould. Ok well I'll buy a few packs then for his use and outdoor use. He will probably be one of those who heaves at every nappy change but he knows that! Just has a terrible weak stomach!
I don't think I want to use flannels!

I's actually way less hassle than reusable nappies, and a lot less icky because you have a nice large wiping surface! Flannels are big enough that you are actually never at risk of pooey fingers, which has happened to me with wipes on a nasty change.

We have a nappy bucket, folded clean soft flannels in a pile in a wicker basket. When I change the baby I take one, dunk in a bowl of warm water (obviously you only ever dunk a clean, dry one in), then wipe the bottom, throw in nappy bucket. Then I pat the baby dry with another clean, dry flannel. The nappy bucket has a (close-fitting!) lid and I put a wash on at 75 degrees (70 degrees kills bacteria, so machine is fine) every other night. My kids have chronically sensitive skin, and they suffered when we go on holiday and I have to use wipes. Really bad rash inside 3 or 4 days, whatever the brand. As long as the flannels get washed in Surcare, along with all their clothes and bedlinen, they're fine.

It's a lot less hassle than using washable nappies because no stuffing pockets or worrying about liners. Literally just hot washing. I have an old towel I upend them into, grab corners and shove that into the machine, then use bleach wipes for the inside of the bucket before replacing it in the bathroom.

It's better for the baby, better for the environment, and you save an absolute fecking fortune. We use eco nappies (my two are allergic to everything else, up to and including washables) which are not exactly cheap, and if we had to pay Water Wipe prices too, we would have a whopping bill. Ikea multipack of white flannels - same as the old terry nappies, really - is £3 a pop. We have about 40, though I never use more than 10 a day now, but a newborn needs so many changes. All the face flannels are coloured, so no risk of confusion! Grin Though after boil washing my squeamishness is probably pretty stupid.

It's not for everyone, but as Water Wipes can cost you £15 a week if you use them for everything, and newborns need near constant changes, £12 all in plus some hot washes seems a reasonable deal to me.

When I say "washed in Surcare along with clothes and bedlinen" I mean "as their clothes and bedlinen are" - I do not boilwash my kids' clothes. My neuroses take alternative forms.

I gave been using Asda extra sensitive baby wipes from birth (4 packs of 64 wipes £5). They do the job and seem gentle on his skin. I have tried all sorts including water wipes but comeback to these every time.

Baby wipes are just fine used on all 3 dc never had an issue. The aldi sensitive baby wipes are really good

I think every mum should try their chosen wet wipes on themselves before using them on their baby. Some of the buggers really, really sting.

sleeponeday · 14/08/2015 03:51

Depends on the baby. I've tried a lot in my time, all cause reactions. On holidays we just have to get on with it, but poor little Belisha beacon bums, often complete with nasty little blisters, are not fun for babies. Or mums, either - you suffer as much if not more!

We have a 5 week old and water wipes are all we have used on her since birth with not a single episode of nappy rash! They are great cos they are so pure, next best thing to cotton wool. In fact a mid wife told me they were fine and her daughter uses them with no problems! Can be expensive, download 'bum deal' app for your phone which gives you best price for nappies and wipes, you can specify which brand.

We've used them after the first few weeks. Never had a pack go mouldy.
