Im 20+3 and a 1st timer to pregnancy and mums net.... "Hello".

I have been gettng really sore/burning nipples over last 12 weeks or so, usually when cold or after shower (nipples become erect). They also look a little white under the skin when it happens and it takes a really painful 10mins or so to wear off. Has anyone else experienced this as no-one else that ive spoken to yet has?????

yep, if your worried go to GP Maybe buy some nipple cream aswell?

I have this, and it started when I was pregnant. Mine is Reynaud's syndrome - it's apparently not uncommon for it to start in pregnancy.

I didn't, and still haven't, found anything to stop it, other than being careful not to let myself get too cold in the first place.

You have my sympathies, it's agonising.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 24/11/2006 15:02

Yes I did. Mine would occasionally turn blue too.

It happened in front of GP when I was explaining the problem and he said he'd never seen or heard of anything like it before.

hairdo35 · 24/11/2006 15:11

Well im going to take photos with me to GP just in case nothing happens during the 10 mins in the over heated surgery!

Thanks for all your help, I dont feel so alone now although im concerned that there doesnt seem to be any cure?....

Oh another quick question for WigWamBam, did it carry on after pregnancy and did you breast feed?

OP posts:
WigWamBam · 24/11/2006 15:23

I did breastfeed, yes - it didn't make it hard to, although feeding when it was cold was uncomfortable.

I still have it now - and dd is 5.5. It's not as bad and I don't get it all the time, just when it's very cold. Apparently it's unusual for it not to go away, though - although it's common for it to come back in subsequent pregnancies.

hairdo35 · 24/11/2006 15:34

Ok good to hear about the breast feeding as im really going to try with that.

Many thanks for your help!

Hi and welcome to Mumsnet! I've been having the same problem since about 13 weeks pg. It's like a cross between a wasp chewing on them or somebody holding a lighter to them. When it's really cold they are starting to look 'chapped' iyswim. I'm noticing it more as it gets colder. In fact, I walked round Cambridge last Saturday with my hands clamped firmly to my breasts moaning to myself. It's definitely cold weather, especially sudden changes of temperature that does it for me.

Aah pregnancy, it's such a magical time...

hairdo35 · 24/11/2006 16:03

Its wrong to say it but im glad someone else is feeling this aswell! I even had it when on holiday in Spain at 14weeks and it wasnt cold there but just getting out of the shower did it! Perhaps someone needs to invent the microwave booby warmers, forget hand & feet!

I had this problem in my first pregnancy and have it again now I am pregnant again! I thought i was the only one. Isn't it agony!! I have been nearly in tears a few times. My nipples go blue. Fortunately it seems to have become less frequent the further into the pregnancy I get. Looks like there is no cure though and we'll just have to suffer!!
