Can anyone recommend a good acupuncturist in London for turning breach baby? (Preferably in NW London or on Jubilee Line!)

Hi Poppynic I go to an acupunturist in Waltham St Lawrence Village, but I guess that might be a bit far out of London for you? If not let me know and I will give you her details. She is newly qualified.

I just got the following from a website about travelling to Waltham St Lawrence:

"Approximately 20 minutes drive from Windsor and 30 minutes from Heathrow. Near to M4 and M25 motorways. The nearest train station is Twyford and is less than 3 miles away."

tips to help turn a breech baby!

have you been offered ECV?

poppynic · 24/11/2006 17:15

Thanks Pinewood - yes it's a bit far. There are plenty around here - I just wondered if anyone had used a particular one with success.

Great site Lulumama. I have been offered ECV at the very end but it sounds a bit gruesome and I was hoping to avoid it if possible. The sen reg. I saw said acupuncture had the best results for turning from all the various alternative methods.

I like the idea of upside down in the pool. Do you know if any of the pools have maternity swimming sessions? - the pool near me is brand new and some bright (and no doubt beautiful) spark has designed it so that the large cafeteria is overlooking it. Great idea for people not keen on being exposed in their togs.

We tried talking to the baby yesterday and funnily enough "she" did do lots of kicking - dp is sure it's coz we were calling "her" Lauren and "he" is in fact a boy!! Ds has also had a go at authoritatively telling baby to put "her" head down. Might try the music too - that sounds quite fun.

not in London, but i imagine the HV or midwife will have lists of antenatal swimming classes!

Hi Poppynic, I tried acupuncture to turn my breach DS but it wasn't successful. I went to one session with the practioner and then my DH had to do it for me every day for a week I think. It's called moxibustion (apologies if you know this already) and the sticks you burn smell really badly. We weren't entirely sure we were doing it correctly and that, combined with the smell, put us off a bit. If you are keen to try and can find someone close then you should go ahead but I thought I would share my experience with you. DS didn't turn in the end - I couldn't have ECV as my platelet level was low - and I had a very good elective section.

moxibustion is incredibly effective at turning breach babies. because it is so effective and so cheap, lots of NHS midwives ar ebeing trained and i'd be astonished if there aren't some in london. alternatively there is a london based acupuncturist who is an expert in gynacology. she's called sarah moon. i don't have her contact details as it's been years since i saw her but i'm sure british acupuncture council will have details.

Lulumama, thanks for the site with turning breach tips! I just did the easy ones - hands and knees of floor, and getting dp to talk to baby where it's head should be (he felt a bit dumb doing it but ds of 4 years was very happy to oblige) and at 34 week scan yesterday - baby is cephalic (is that the term?) - hooorraay.

woo hoo !!!!! cephalic is head down......wonderful! did you not feel LO turn???

not long to wait now to meet your baby xxx

poppynic · 07/12/2006 12:47

No, I didn't feel it turn, sadly - would have liked that. Do you know the stats for them turning back the other way again? (I do tend to be a bit pessimistic.) Yes, am really looking forward to the big day now.

i don't !!! but once they go head down, it is more likely they will stay down as the head is the heaviest part of the baby....also, as baby grows, there is less and less room to turn, have a look

optimal foetal positioning

now that baby is head down, to get in the best position for birth !!

sit on your gym ball a lot!!

franke · 07/12/2006 12:52

poppynic, I don't know the likelihood of baby turning back again, but you can do stuff to try to prevent it happening. My dd was not breach but she was posterior which contributed to me ending up with a cs first time round. With ds, I was so neurotic about it happening again I really worked on my posture towards the end. So no slouching on the sofa and get down on your hands and knees and scrub that floor. Good luck! (I'm sure lulumama will have some more tips too)

Crossed posts! Yes gym balls are ace.
