Fake tan

Does anyone know if it's safe to use fake tan during pregnancy? I usually use it in the summer to get a healthy glow, rather than frying in the sun, but I'm 9 weeks pregnant and just wonder if it would be wise to use it whilst pregnant. Anyone know if it's OK, and if so can you recommend any brands?

I asked that

marslady told me to put the porn films on hold

I have used it just on my legs as they look awful with no tan

I've just looked this up - apparently the chemicals won't harm the baby as they stay on the skin's surface, but your skin gets more sensitive in pregnancy so you might get an adverse reaction.

The BMA doesn't recommend using them for that reason, rather than because it will cause any harm to the baby.

Thanks you girls!

No more fake tanning this year then.

No, me neither - and I'd just found a fake tan I liked, too!

I've been using the Clinique self-tan on my face/neck.chest (although it's a whole-body one - I'm just too lazy to apply everywhere) and it's worked exactly the way it did before I was pregnant

i'd use the fake tan. you can always do a skin test beforehand (put a tiny dot on somewhere for 24-48 hours) to check you have no new reaction to it.

My skin's definitely more sensitive since I got pg - I noticed my skin before I knew I was pg, so I think i'll avoid it.

Besides, don't Neal's Yard reckon that 70% of what you put on your skin is absorbed into the body?

This phrasing always makes me nervous "At present there are no known dangers of fake tanning lotions"

But I'm a bit paranoid, so feel free to ignore me

Personally I would not use them when pregnant. Our skin does absorb what we put on it and all those chemicals that turn your skin brown have to seep into your pores even if a tiny bit.

I limit the amount of perfume I use when pregnant and hardly use it but if I do I spray it on my hair or clothes and not directly on my skin.

I also limit the amount of makeup I wear.

I chilled out after second child but with first use to hate it when people held her and she came back stinking of perfume and beauty products. Silly but I was over the top then.
