I may be wrong but I didn't think there were symptoms..? I thought this was what could happen straight after the birth..?
In that case the symptoms were that the placenta wouldn't deliver..???

Are you thinking of something else..? Why are you asking..?

if you have recently had a baby ....the entire placenta cannot have been retained..had it not been delivered after the birth..the midiwfe would have taken steps to remove it !

if you have recently had a baby and are now experiencing :

heavy blood loss ( heavier than it has been!)

temperature

feverishness

passing clots

feeling generally unwell...

that is an indication that tiny parts of the placenta have been left behind.they will come out as the blood is lost. you might need to see the doctor and may require antibiotics

hope that helps!

Another sign is if your milk hasn't come in properly within a few days.

Hi, i had a etained placenta and some was left behind after the delivery ,this caused a bad infection but symptoms did'nt show until 3 weeks after the birth, i had realy bad stomach pains and a bad fever, i had a scan and was given a strong course of antibiotics and when i had my first period it cleared itself.

For me it was heavy blood loss, with clots - so somtimes it would appear to stop.

I would recommend anyone gets some medical advice on this - I had a haemorrhage 2 weeks after giving birth because of retained placenta.

Chooster - what treatment did you have?
