Hi.
I'm looking at the Chicco 'next to me' at the moment, has anyone else got one or getting one? I just wondered if they are worth the £150? I am planning on going to buy it Wednesday.
Mainly because I'm having a elcs it'll be easier for me to I check on baby as she'll be right next to me I won't have to bend/lean into a crib. Although the side does go up when needed anyway.

Thanks in advance Smile

Reading all this I am thinking just a simple crib or cot standing next to the bed might be an option instead...

Some people have mentioned that babied don't like bigger open spaces of larger cots. This is an accessory for a baby hammock but can be used anywhere and is a LOT cheaper than the sleepy head pod. Anyone used it?

This is interesting also-some info about co-sleeping

Watching this thread with interest as I instinctively wanted a co-sleeper. However read a few frightening stories about babies suffocating in them Sad am I wrong to rule them out because of this?

ammature · 04/08/2015 14:52

Also do you pull the side up when baby is sleeping or is the side down all the time? I'm worried about them being asyphixiated in the gap or side of the co sleeper.

beehappybe · 04/08/2015 15:08

The mokee looks lovely ARV1981 -the side is removable not a drop side right?

ammature I think the horrible stories were due to the cot being used incorrectly ( like in the case of the bednest) but I am thinking that if the bed has even the slightest danger of being used incorrectly maybe it's not a good idea. Humans make mistakes, especially after sleep deprivation...so I am thinking about just putting a cot bed next to the bed-I can reach and see through the wood planks and easily push the cot away to slide my feet of the bed. As another post mentioned the idea of not having to get up is good in principle but I expect often it will be either me needing to get up for a pee when woken up or baby needs changing etc.. I would be curious to know if anyone using the co-sleeper actually stays in their bed all night long???

MummyPiggy87 · 04/08/2015 15:14

Ammature there's a lip on the side, once the side is put down, so the baby can't fall into you, fall out or down the side.
The height is adjustable too.
I heard about the baby who suffocated but as already said it's because the bed was used incorrectly. I'll only really be using it with the side down whilst the baby is newborn till around 3 months, then I want her to get used to it being enclosed.

I don't get out of bed. I have diapers next to the bed and just change the baby on our bed, if necessary. And you don't need to pee all the time once not pregnant :)
It's DC2 and it really makes a difference if you have been woken up umpteen times, if you can just pull the baby to you and slide them back into their bed, or if you have to get up for both getting and putting back.

MummyPiggy87 · 04/08/2015 15:19

Bee- anything can be used incorrectly, I've heard about babies suffocating in prams, cat seats and cots. It's all down to not leaving things they can suffocate with, choke on, making sure the oxygen is flowing into the bed (not using wrong mattress etc)
I'm not using cot bumpers, I'm getting the mesh this time which allows air flow and can't cause suffocation or strangling!
All in all, there's too much going on, you have to just crack on with it. Back in the day they didn't have all this stuff, there's a lot of scaremongering now.

Yes right,I suppose you can use anything the wrong way but I guess some products more so than others. Still got plenty of time to decide, maybe there will be some new amazing product on the market in the next few months Smile

Have been checking out the mokee cotbed and it looks a very good price with storage drawer, mattress, sheet and free delivery...

ammature · 04/08/2015 15:51

I thought the lip was the issue with the baby that choked? Of course you are all correct that if the equipment is used incorrectly it's always as a risk. I guess my instinct says these are great but also they are quite new and not what our parents used etc so I'm just a little cautious. Great to hear so many of you have been finding them so useful.

Librarina · 04/08/2015 16:30

I hired a bednest with my first, she was in it until 7 months old. It made nights so much easier and was great when we went away from home as it packs up and comes with you. After that we took a side off a regular cot and kept her next to us for a little while longer and when she was weaned at night she went into a cot in her own room.

For my next baby I'm looking at the bednest or the chicco, but I'm probably going to go with hiring the bednest again as it was so useful and well designed. The build quality and materials of the chicco don't look as good to me. I liked the way it attached to the bed and I put a towel over the side rail when I had it down so it was comfy for me to lie on.

As PPs have said, problems with the co-sleeper cots have been with people using them incorrectly, they are few and far between and in my opinion, the way they improve night time life with a baby massively outweighs the very few problems that have been had with them.

5YearsTime · 04/08/2015 16:41

HazleNutt breastfeeding through the night made me crazy thirsty so I still had to get up out of bed to pee! Once baby slept better I didn't though!

CobbOnn · 04/08/2015 16:59

I love the look of the Chicco one. Thinking to get one for dc2. Co slept with ds for 21 months. He has only just moved into his own bed. I loved sleeping with him but we all needed our own space from very early on, meaning a lot of musical beds!

ARV1981 · 04/08/2015 17:14

beehappybe yes the side is removable not drop sided...

I haven't used it yet and dh hasn't set it up yet, but I might nag him to do so now!!

It comes in other colours too, I just picked this one as it's my favourite colour and unisex!

ARV1981 · 04/08/2015 17:15

Haven't used it yet, as baby's still inside me!!!

beehappybe · 04/08/2015 18:12

Thanks ARV1981 does it come with the straps to attach to parent bed or do you need to improvise? I love the colour you picked Smile but they do have lovely other options too.

ARV1981 · 04/08/2015 18:17

No straps unfortunately so improvisation needed.

I do have a second hand Moses basket as back up in case this doesn't work as I expect it to! But I think it will be ok.

ARV1981 · 04/08/2015 18:18

Oh yes, the colours are fab. Was originally going for the dark grey but then saw this new one and had to have it! If I knew I was having a girl, I'd have picked the pink and had no other pink in the room!!! But we've opted for a surprise.

beehappybe · 06/08/2015 09:38

Just revisiting this thread as was checking out Snuzpod second hand on ebay and found that many of them end up with collapsed side after use.

For that kind of money when new I don't think they should look like this after just few months of use! Anyone has one that ended up looking like this?

Co-sleeping bed any good?
beehappybe · 06/08/2015 09:42

I wonder if it's due to not bothering to zip the side down and just putting the baby in over the edge but still, for about £200 new it should be a bit more rigid and long lasting...

beehappybe · 06/08/2015 09:43

MummyPiggy87 I wonder how did you get on with the chicco one? Are you happy with it?

MummyPiggy87 · 06/08/2015 18:00

Hi Bee. I'm still planning on getting it, mothercare were out of stock in my area in the pink. So I ended up getting a car seat and base instead!
The crib will be bought next month instead. I will let you know how it goes, how long till your due??

Love the idea of the co-sleeper, but how do you get in/out of bed. Does it wheel away from the bed easily?

After my emcs my wound was pretty sore and I wouldn't have been able to crawl around the co-sleeper. I also wouldn't have been able to sit up without swinging my feet off the bed, or lift a baby over while lying down.

It would have been great after the first couple of weeks, but not sure I'd have been mobile enough to manoeuvre around it in the early days.

MummyPiggy87 · 06/08/2015 20:19

It does have wheels, but when it's at your bed its on a fixed position from what I've read. So it'll be a case of sitting up and around to stand. But being a crib I can't imagine it being that long anyway so it's not like you'll have to crawl to the end of the bed or anything. Best having a look in mothercare and seeing what you think. They are small x
