Hello mums and mums-to-be,

I'm six months pregnant with my first baby and for the last few weeks my emotions have been extremely up and down. The worst thing is that I'm finding my husband intensely irritating to be around at the moment and we're constantly bickering. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this during pregnancy, too? Feel like I've lost all tolerance with him and I just want to tell him to sod off and stop bothering me.

Would love a chat about this!

x

I haven't experienced this but I do think it is a common occurrence as I have read other posts on here about it.

I tend to feel a tad sorry for the husband because he seems to be getting short shrift for no good reason.

You need to remove yourself from his presence when you feel the rage coming on.

Good luck with baby Smile

8 months pregnant and DH is seriously annoying me. Despite fetching me drinks (in the wring glass) tidying up (not the room I wanted tidying) etc etc. He can do no right. Tell him how you are feeling then hes forewarned. Just off to tell dh hes annoying me for playing computer games when I need a foot rub.

It could just be normal pregnancy hormones and worries coming out, making you more short-tempered. But, have you had your iron levels (including ferritin levels) checked recently? Around the same time in my first pregnancy I was really short-tempered with DH for a few weeks, then we found out that my ferritin was low, and simply taking iron supplements improved my mood within a few days. I have seen guidelines from NICE that say irritability is a recognised effect of anaemia, which I think is what I was experiencing.

There are some funny threads on MN about grumpy pg women. it's quite common!

Peppasmate · 01/08/2015 21:46

Oh yes!
6 dc, 4 with dp. I'm not joking by 6th dc I was ready to kill dp. Everything annoyed me. But he was absolutely useless & never looked after me during pregnancy or even if I was ill. Sad

Thanks ladies. Must seek out those other threads of fellow grumpy pregnant chicks. My poor husband! :-/

Is he actually being useless or can you hand on heart say it's your moods?

Pregnancy does very strange things to every bit of you, physical and mental. I found I grew up in a big hurry - I was 36 with my first by the way! - but the impending responsibility was a big deal for me, and seemed less important to my DH.

Athenaviolet · 01/08/2015 21:53

I'm the opposite!

My moods are so much more stable when I'm pregnant. I think my body likes the extra hormones! I'm nowhere near as temperamental as I am with the monthly fluctuations of mood in my non pregnant state. that is horrible!

FastWindow · 01/08/2015 22:27

I concur athena - I was very serene, maybe smug inside but I was so happy about the whole thing that nothing could kill my mood.

Now they are 5 and 2 and I have near homicidal grumps. Oh well :)

I'm with you, I don't feel emotional but normal things annoy me more. The sound of my husband breathing in the night when I've got up to the loo and I'm trying o get back to sleep is enough to make me scream. My dd makes this strange hmmm noise when she eats and I have to leave the room as it might scar her for life if she knew how irritating I find it and I'm just generally a bit more ragey and irritated by everything. Are you having a boy? I found with my two boy pregnancies I was much more angry, with my girl pregnancy I was serene and earth motherish....

BaguetteMaid · 02/08/2015 13:42

My husband burnt my dinner during my first trimester and I karate kicked a bottle of squash across the room and broke down in hysterical tears. We call that night "shepherds pie-gate"

Wait till the baby's born- you'll want to kill your DH even more! Wink

ribbitTheFrog · 02/08/2015 13:43

Not unusual ime, I think it's a combination of stress about impending motherhood /birth, lack of sleep and hormones. I've been very fractious towards the end of my pregnancies, as well as once baby is born and true lack of sleep kicks in

Doublebubblebubble · 02/08/2015 14:21

Yep. I think its perfectly rational to find your dh a bit annoying. Your mind is focusing on very important other things and men in general dh/dp's like to do distracting things...also they aren't your be all and end all anymore and that puts most men out too. Once baby comes they find their place and you'll find yours together. I've always found that as long as you can end the day with a kiss and a cuddle its been a good day x

RockerMummy184 · 02/08/2015 14:27

And in my experience it's not just husbands....colleagues that keep offering tea, other children not communicating at exactly the right volume, motorists being on the road that ONLY YOU should be allowed to drive on, strangers you pass in the street wearing the wrong coloured trousers.... The list goes on. Grin
