Aspirin and spontaneous labour - stories please!

I've been taking low-dose aspirin for most of the pregnancy as per NICE guidelines to reduce my chances of pre-eclampsia/hypertension. I've been told to "continue taking it until I deliver" and the literature agrees on the pre-eclampsia front.

However, I am aware that the way aspirin works (blocking prostaglandins) could also potentially prolong labour or prevent it from occurring spontaneously and I am DESPERATE to avoid an induction.

So my question is: if you took aspirin until the end, did you go into spontaneous labour? Was it a normal labour? Did your doctors stop it at 36 weeks as some suggest (bit late for me now!)?

My consultant told me to stop at 36 weeks, I was induced at 37 though. I hadn't heard it could stop/stall labor

Was this recently? Mine has said to continue to the end and I'm 37+ now I can't find data on whether the low dose aspirin would stop spontaneous labour or not!

Sorry I can't help but interested to see the answers as I've been threatened with being put on aspirin (currently 10 weeks). I definitely don't want an induction..

I took aspirin right up until I went into spontaneous labour at 40+3.

I had to have an elcs (but I'd asked to go to 40+10 before doing so)
I laboured well until going into theatre

My ds was born in December, I was on aspirin to reduce the likelihood of clots and was induced due to anxiety so not because I was on aspirin. (Had a previous still birth)

I was the worst for reading up on things but never read that!

Hmmm, can you say where you've read this, Mrs, you've got me anxious too! I was told to take it til I deliver too, and I don't want induction either!

I can't remember which article it was, but it did mention slowing down or preventing labour ocurring spontaneously as one of the side-effects of any NSAID (in particular aspirin as this is the only one routinely given to pregnant women etc).

From what I've read I don't think it would be an issue per se as the dosage is so small. I think it's because it's not mentioned that it had me worried, but without the statistics it's hard to know. Plus, women who are taking it are more likely to have issues requiring induction anyway (high BMI, age, Pre-E risk factors etc), regardless of aspirin usage.

If I can find it again, I'll post it, but tbh I'm not convinced it'll be a problem - I think I was just hoping that plenty of people would be able to jump in and say 'I had it and went into labour naturally' HTH

That's slightly reassuring, Mrs, thank you,! I'm fed up waiting now, although I'm only a couple of days over. I guess I need to be calm and patient instead of anxious and impatient.

I'm on baby aspirin, I'm 16 weeks.
Did they give you it in dissolvable form?
I just can not take it in this way, I have terrible morning sickness as it is.
Also I'm told to keep on it until the baby is born, I'm at a higher risk of bleeding a lot after birth, would the aspirin make the bleeding worse?

I'm 26 weeks and have prescribed it by a consultant at 17 weeks I think. He said to take it up to delivery or stop before due date. I've got next appointment with him at 32 weeks so might ask him if I can stop at 38 weeks, I don't want to go over 40 weeks and am going to ask to be induced if baby hasn't come before hand.

The tablets are soluble but I just tAke them as normal pills. Hth.

I don't think my tummy would cope with the dissolvable way.
