Iv got my GTT tomorrow has any one else had this do you find out results when you are there?? Will my other half be able to come with me? ? X

I've had one with this pregnancy. Husband's and partners can be with you but its very boring, all you do is sit in the waiting room for 2 hours. You don't get the results from the second bloods on the day. I has a normal antenatal appointment booked for the following day and mentioned to my midwife that the phlebotomist said she might be able to get the results if she phoned up. She couldn't get them then but she did ring me in the evening and tell me all was ok.

I had the same experience as fern... my husband did come with me, and I must say it was nice to have the company and I'm not great with needles so having someone to hold my hand was nice.

Take a book or your knitting or whatever, I wouldn't bother taking a partner it is so dull. Blood taken, lucozade (or glucose drink), sit for two hours, second blood draw, leave.

Friends and/or partners can be with you, and with me I got my results same day (but at the end of the day and had to phone for them). I suppose it depends on the hospital

My hospital posted out my results a week later but I had a midwife appointment 2 days after and she managed to find my results on the computer system. It was very boring waiting in the hospital but I took a good book and time passed. DH stayed at home with DS so I was quite happy to have some peace and quiet.

I agree with the PPs - it's quite a boring wait. Definitely take a book or magazine with you.

One tip the phlebotomist gave to me was to wait in the antenatal waiting room rather than at phlebotomy as the chairs were far more comfortable. You might want to ask if you can do the same.

Are you not allowed to go for a walk around or something??

I was allowed outside the main antenatal unit "to get some fresh air" but told not to walk off. Mainly because I'd not eaten anything and been given a load of sugar.

I was told you had to be quite sedentary for the results to be accurate so had to stay put.

I was sllowed to walk to the hospital shop but no further.

They never said anything about sitting in the waiting room... we just walked off to a little garden on hospital grounds and sat in the shade and chatted.
