Nursery suspects worms in ds but TTC!

So my ds's nursery have told me they suspect he had worms and recommend I treat him for them...I'll be treating the whole family, but I'm TTC and may be almost 2 weeks pregnant (not possible to be more!). Does anyone know if the treatment's safe to take when trying for a baby? I'm sure I remember my OB telling me that you have a 2 week 'grace period' after conception. Haven't managed to find anything on the internet other than don't take worm treatment in the first trimester!

Firstly I'd be taking him to the GO, not just taking the Nurserys word!

Crazycatlady27 · 26/07/2015 12:18

GP not GO!

Just treat the family and certainly treat him. You don't need a doctor to worm your kids.

I worm mine once every 6 weeks or so.

If you don't want to take the meds then keep scrupulous hygiene.. Damp dust everywhere with a handle, button and surface. Wash underwear and bedding on hot and ironing gussets kill any eggs left.

If you get them keep washing the area and they generally complete their cycle after about 6 weeks.

Personally I would just worm the whole family anyway.

UrethraFranklin1 · 26/07/2015 12:27

why would you take to gp for suspected worms, fgs? Just look up his bum. Treat the child, ime adults with decent hygiene rarely get them, and if you have no symptoms you dont need to treat yourself.

Isthatwhatdemonsdo · 26/07/2015 12:29

If there is a sand tray that your child plays with at nursery, ask them if they antibac it. The worm eggs live in the sand.

If the OP is trying to concieve then she will be doing regular pregnancy tests. I suggest the OP treats her son and partner with the medication. In two weeks time the OP will know if she is pregnant or not. If she has a negative pregnancy test then she can treat herself as a precaution.

ChicaT · 26/07/2015 13:01

To be honest CrazyCatLady i'd rather just treat him then go through the palaver of going to the GP! I've heard that 40% of kids have worms at any one time...so he's probably fairly likely to have them. Interesting point Isthatwhatdemonsdo...I've never seen a sand pit but I'm sure they play with sand.

ReallyTired that's my option B and probably the safest thing to do...we've been trying for a while and not sure I want to risk a problem...just such a pain with egg/worm cycles etc! I'm hoping someone will come on and post that their doctor said it would be fine!

I took threadworms medication when I was TTC. I took the tablet around the time I ovulated in the cycle we were successful. I'm now 31 weeks pregnant and have had a fairly straightforward pregnancy.

If you are yet to ovulate, I would take it.

Call pharmacist

Ilikefrogs · 26/07/2015 14:16

I agree with checking him first! It's disgusting but you can see them wriggling out of their bum if they have them!
For what it's worth, my DD has had them twice and no one else got them so you will probably be ok not treating yourself.

AliAliAlium · 26/07/2015 14:31

DS had it twice when I was pregnant (which I know is a wee bit different). We have DCs and DH medication but I didn't / couldn't take it - 'twas fine, I didn't get worms, thank goodness. Just wash all bedding for your DS a lot for the first week or two, towels daily (hot), Hoover and clean well and no towel sharing etc. you should be fine.

ChicaT · 20/08/2015 00:24

Ah well, this might be the first time I was relieved to not be pregnant! Got my period a few days after this post, immediately took worming tablets and all is good! Now just hoping for that baby...

For future ref, check with the pharmacist but I was told that it was safe when preg by my hospital gynecologist, who looked it up, as the medicine stays in the bowel and very little is absorbed into the system.

Even so, do check first.

Vigilant hygiene is supposed to help but the idea of the little bastards wriggling around for 6 weeks isn't pleasant.

If you do have to go that route in future, wear leggings in bed and change them every night as well as the other precautions.

Kickedinthetits · 20/08/2015 07:45

Just check. You can't miss them
