Hi,

Today's task is to make lists (with costs) for the nursery, my hospital bag and my baby's hospital bag.

I have taken 2 weeks of annual leave to sort the flat and buy all relevant baby related paraphernalia...

I am doing my list and got as far as the cot in my 'Nursery' section (my first item) and then...

here is my question... do I need a waterproof mattress cover in case she pees and it leaks out of her nappy?!?!

(I used to be a normal person with Sunday plans including a glass of wine at the pub at around 2pm!)

There will be more questions to come. Thank you all in advance

Smile

I found sleep suits a whole lot easier in the first few weeks. There s lots of adorable sleep suits out there
Frugli do lovely organic cotton
Mamas and papas end of sale is 50% off right now
M and s do great vests and p j s
P.O.P also have great soft tops and bottoms that are generally not very gender specific so great if you don't know what you re having.
I wouldn't buy too much newborn stuff, dd was so long she grew out of newborn stuff in two weeks!

Baby gros with no feet are great.October baby - I d suggest having a vest, babygro with the option of a soft cardi maybe a hat, for going home in car seat - blanket over it if needed- you probably won't be outside for very long anyway tbh - just Hosptial to car and car to house ?
Second blanket in case if a very cold?

Thanks whatabout sounds good! I wasn't looking forward to spending a small fortune on a snowsuit to be worn once!

Sorry if I repeat what others have said...

I have a Hippychick mattress protector from Amazon. I think you get what you pay for with mattresses (as long as you don't go wild) and I got a spring mattress from mamas and papas. We bought the cotbed itself from a seller on gumtree, along with a changing table. The table was a bit bashed but does the job!

You don't need a movement sensor baby monitor, and we took our angelcare one back. We have a BT monitor which was about £40 and absolutely fine.

We do have a nappy change bin and yes I guess the smell can linger, but I'd rather that than have to put them outside in the middle of the night. We have the tommee tippee one.

I'd buy a baby wrap/swaddle tho I know some advise against. And a giant Muslin is brilliant if you are planning to breastfeed (or even if you're not). A pack of vests from Next and plain sleepsuits, and lots of nappies Smile

I honestly wouldn't worry though - a car seat to take your baby home, 2-3 changes of clothes and somewhere to sleep and keep warm is all you really need. All the extras like baby bath, baby towel etc, you can make do without.

My most useful extras were my breast pump, a decent and durable changing bag (I got the pacapod and love it still), some infacol just in case, and waterwipes for when cotton wool just wouldn't do Smile
