My friend is 4 months gone and is worried that she hasn't felt her baby move for a few days. Is this normal?

please encourage her to check it out. Probably all fine, but it is so important to check it out.

good luck

By 4 mths, I guesse she is 16 weeks. There is quite a difference in feeling the baby move between 16 and 18 weeks.

I personally don't think this is abnormal, 16 - 20 weeks it is still difficult to detect movements. Somepeople don't even feel movements as early as this.

If your friend is worried she should give her midwife a call tommorow, she may be able to have a listen on the doppler to reassure her all is OK

Thing is she (my friend, not the midwife!) is on holiday in Barbados! So I don't want to stress her out unnecessarily - think I will tell her to give midwife a call anyway just to put her mind at rest.

16 weeks is too early to be worried. 20 weeks i would definitely be worried. find out how many weeks she is; if it's 18 or over tell her to get to a midwife! is it her first baby?

smiling,

Throughout my entire pregnancy I almost never felt my ds moving. I remember visits at 35 weeks and the midwife asking if I felt movement and I would say "no". If I did feel anything it was maybe once a day, depending on how busy I was. If she is working or has a busy life chasing after other kids she may not notice the movements. Also my ds decided he wanted to camp out closer to my back, so I didn't really feel movement, but a lot of back pain.

I first felt 'flutters' at 17-ish weeks, then bub would go quiet for days and I would dash to the doctors to be checked out. At 20 odd weeks my doctor said bub is probably still too small to feel prominent movement. Also it depends where your friends placenta is, mine was anterior to it cushioned bubs movements. I'm now nearly 33 weeks and feelings loads of movement. My advice would be to get checked out but try not to worry too much. x
