7 weeks scan not good news

Went for 7 weeks scan today (mainly to rule out an ectopic as had suspected one in January)and though it is not ectopic it is not developed enough to match dates. The pregnancy sac is only 4-5 weeks old and as I had a positive test 2 weeks ago, it is unlikely to be a case of dates being wrong. Now I have to wait 2 weeks for the next scan. This is the worst bit, the waiting. That's why I have decided against HCG bloods this time as it just prolongs the agony. Sorry, I know some of you won't want to read negative posts but I am still pregnant and cannot yet join the miscarriage threads, though I suspect I will in a fortnight. Has this happened to anyone else in the past and did you opt for a ERPC? Would like to know how it went if so.

How awful for you - had soemthing similar back in March. Sadly I had a ERPC but I do know of some good news stories too. So fingers crossed for you.

The op itself was fine, quick. Was in hospital from 8.30 am and discharged at 11.30 am. Luckily for me I had no bleedign after it. Good luck for your next scan

hello plummymummy, I am sorry to hear this. I have been in your situation too, and I know exactly what you mean about the waiting. try to stay positive and be kind to yourself - can you plan some activities to throw yourself into to help you get through?
I have had ERPC and also expectant management. there is something to be said for both. with ERPC, you can feel like it is "over and done with" and start to recover physically and emotionally, but the bleeding can be excessive. with expectant management, the process can be longer, but a bit more gentle/natural iykwim.
try and focus on the positive - you know you can become pregnant now.
sending love and positive thoughts.
HC xx

Thank you both of you. Tbh I can endure the excessive bleeding if it means it is over with quicker. I have never been much good at waiting for anything! When pregnant with ds (who I realise I am very lucky to have and have been kissing him loads today)I used to look at the next week development stage as I had read the one that applied over and over again. How long did you have to wait with the expectant management? The difficulty I have is that I have to be supernumerary at work as I have a risky job. Hence the longer it goes on for, the more tricky it becomes. It has been kept quiet at work but more people are being nosey as to the reasons why I am not working directly with the patients. As I am going to ttc asap afterwards, I don't want this stage to go on for too long. Typing this, it sounds so clinical. Really I am gutted but I just can't show it at the moment. I am dealing with it by focusing on the next pregnancy. I don't think this is healthy but I don't know how else to deal with it.

I feel so bad for you. had similar thing 14 weeks ago. had bleeding at 9 weeks and the early scan dated the baby at about 7 weeks, so I was expecting the worst as it seemed the baby was small.

the week between the scan where baby was small but there, and the following week when it was confirmed I had lost it was terrible.

I opted for an ERPC as I wanted to know it was over and done with. Like you, I dont mean to sound clinical but I needed to move on and couldnt do that knowing I was still carrying the baby.

The op was fine, no pain and not much bleeding. It did take me 12 weeks for next AF but I know of a few people who have got pregnant very quickly after an ERPC.

Good luck.

I don't think anyone can say what is "healthy" and what is not pm, you just have to do what you can to get through it.
EM took quite a long time (several weeks), but I was able to conceive pretty quickly afterwards. I found the ERPC quite draining, and on my next period I lost a lot of blood, which I found very upsetting too.
I know it is hard, but please do try not to think about it for the time being if you can.

Thanks kg and hc. It helps to hear from other women who have been through this. Sorry for your losses too
