lavender and clary sage

hello, my mum has bought me some lavender and clary sage bath oil from the internet. I got it yesterday and was reading the bootle and noticed it siad that it should only be used once labour is established and never before your due date. It is meant to be 'relaxing' and 'ease you towards transition'.

My question is did anybody else use anything like this during labour and when is the best time to use it. My mum got it with the view to me using it at home first before I go to hospital, but is this a bad idea? Can it do more harm than good?

Thank you

I used clary sage in hospital during contractions first time, and rubbed it into tummy when a week over with second (didn't work as 2 weeks late). Smells weird,(a bit mind blowing for me) distracted me somewhat in early stages of first, but is a very strong smell. I would try it in the bath once in established labour, hopefully the nice lavender smell will overpower the clary sage!

Yes, it is quite strong. Thank you for your reply. x

Anybody else?...

I am 38+5 today and been using both oils in the bath and as a massage oil on my belly and back since last Thursday, also been taking raspberry leaf tablets, I don't think any of it has made any difference TBH.

Good luck though

lavender is fine you can use it throughout pg as massage oil or in bath

clary sage is strong and can bring on contractions, so if you are overdue, can be just the thing! however avoid it if you're only at 38 weeks or less..

hope this helps

I am 36.6 weeks pregnant and am about to have my fourth home birth,so am pretty limited in what I can use in labour. Each time I have given birth I have used an aromatherapy back rub that consisted of the following,50ml of almond oil,10 drops of clary sage, 6 drops of lavender, and 6 drops of ylang ylang.my husband rubs this into my lower back for hours very hard.I seem to experience labour in my back.I have found this to be marvellous, and would definately say yes use it.

this sounds good stingray!Thanks

The bath oil that I have can also be used as a massage oil,so may get husband to give me a rub too!
