Really, is this a thing?

So my dsis came over tonight to celebrate my reaching 12w. After she had a wine or 4 she began telling me a blow by blow account of her labours. Then said with her ds1 she had an incredibly powerful orgasm during the pushing stage. Is this a thing or is she winding me up? She seemed deadly serious but I've never heard of it before. Please all come this way and laugh at the gullible one.

Good luck with the labour when your time comes. Sorry no pun intended. I had never heard of this and I didn't orgasm. Darn it. But the pain was a very enjoyable pain and it did make me turn to kiss DP. So I wish you well, as perhaps like sex its sometimes nice, but not quite,if you see what I mean

Wailywailywaily · 18/07/2015 20:33

Dsil has claimed for years that he labours where orgasmic, I have always given her the Hmm face. Maybe I should reevaluate. Mine were not orgasmic, sadly Grin

OstentatiousBreastfeeder · 18/07/2015 21:34

Fanjo, you aren't alone, I had the exact feeling/sensation you described during the pushing stages of both my labours.

In fact I remember, when the midwife kept telling me to breathe through the pain, telling her that 'actually it feels quite nice'.

I read about it on here after DS' birth and it was a 'ooh so that's not normal?' moment.

OstentatiousBreastfeeder · 18/07/2015 21:37

Oh and the first labour was an horrific million-hour induction! So no organic kale-scented incense waving nonsense.

waceystills · 18/07/2015 21:51

Me too fanjo just as you describe with DS1, that feeling came with the urge to push.

Not with DS2 though, had an epidural.

fanjodisfunction · 18/07/2015 21:58

so glad I'm not the only one, phew!

reallywittyname · 18/07/2015 22:01

Good Lord, the closest I got to an orgasm was squeezing the anaesthetist's hand by mistake while they were putting me back together (elcs), and it's just as well, I am quite noisy when, er, yes well let's not dwell on the details.

blowinahoolie · 18/07/2015 22:14

Never happened with either of mine. Maybe I'll be lucky third time round?!

DowntownFunk · 18/07/2015 22:15

I had one just before pushing probably because the whole area was stretched. It wasn't fabulous, like a normal one, as I was in pain and it definitely wasn't sensuous in any way. It didn't happen next time round....I didn't feel deprived.

siscaza · 18/07/2015 22:45

I had the pleasurable sensation during the pushing stage with my first, no ring of fire for me just a satisfied on edge tingle if you know what I mean!?!?

Doublebubblebubble · 19/07/2015 00:50

I've definitely heard of it...not sure id want to have one then as...i don't know 1. You'd be too distracted to enjoy 2. And probably rightly so.

I imagine that the women lucky enough to get an O from penetration alone would be the ones more likely to have something like this happen. Our bodies are crazy lol x

Topsy34 · 19/07/2015 07:58

Defo a thing!

I had similar to fanjo, hard to describe, like when you feel you are going to orgasm, that feeling inside you?

I was hypnobirthing, and completely relaxed, felt that then felt the stretching of his head crowning.

outofsightoutofmind · 19/07/2015 19:49

Have to admit that it happened to me with my second! The first having been traumatic and brutal, I was determined that the 2nd would be more relaxed and that I would be the one calling the shots. Come (sorry) the climax (sorry again ????) just as she was crowning, there was a definite, erm, rush. Made the whole thing that much more bearable although I most certainly did not call the midwife (lol) for any
hand relief!

NoArmaniNoPunani · 19/07/2015 20:44

My mum had one with her second birth. Sadly it was her first ever orgasm!

Outwith · 19/07/2015 21:00

Shock Who knew!

MadameJulienBaptiste · 19/07/2015 21:08

Makes a change from involuntarily pooping during contractions I suppose Envy

Outwith · 19/07/2015 21:09

Grin Madame.

Well this is a slight improvement to the general terror I am feeling about childbirth. My dsis and I are polar opposites in ever way, I just have to pray not that one. I quizzed her more on it and she said the birth wasn't really painful, just enjoyable. I have just never heard anyone say anything like that before, I'm also surprised she wasn't shouting this from the rooftops before now (it's ok I am sharing it with the web to make up for it)! She is now aware of this thread and had a little giggle today. Sorry dsis!

Every birth is different so offering encouragement or otherwise is fairly pointless. I always work on the basis no point in worrying about things before they happen as nothing can be done until then. Birth is a good example as the best you can do is look after yourself and your baby as much as you csn so you are both as well as possible when the hard work of birth arrives. I found relaxation and breathing very helpful but for some people it is at best an irritation. Cont'd

FastWindow · 20/07/2015 02:17

First I've heard of it tbh! Hopefully it'll pan out for you. Have you any mum friends who can give you a realistic expectation?

Sounds a bit new age.

bestguess23 · 20/07/2015 11:02

Don't worry, I am well informed and fully expecting it to be hellish pain but it's still an interesting phenomenon.

Have you heard of foetal ejection reflex?
Apparently, the feelings are similar to those of orgasm.
