Sounds like a daft question I know, but apart from the obvious does anyone have any old wives tales about trying to get pregnant. It took us over a year for dd1 and we are trying again but I don't want a huge age gap between the two and we are having no luck so far. I know you are not supposed to think about it as it will never happen, but it's so hard not to.

ChicPea, we used KY too and got pg .

gingernut · 09/05/2004 23:50

Oh, and we used a very non-optimal position as well. Shouldn't really be pg should I? (and it was after many months of trying so it's not just that we are super-fertile!).

Plan a wedding and do it on your birthday - worked for us. Pregnancy wasn't planned but I think the fact that the wedding was only 11 weeks away and my dress cost LOADS of money made those super swimmer go ever faster!

On a more serious note - try those home ovulation kits (about £18) from pharmacies. They aren't foolproof but may give you a better chance of picking the right day. One of my friends took over a year to conceive with first baby (and if she is to be believed they were at it like wild things!) and the second time used an ovulation kit and voila! Baby 2 was born 9 months later. GOOD LUCK

Hmm not quite sure what to write ,never planned any babies !!! only do what others have said i suppose which is sex sex sex and more sex and if that doesnt work well lay back and think of England....LOL I think on a serious note it doesnt matter when you have sex during after or before ovulation just go for it,(old wives tale remember to keep your legs up on the wall after) good luck!!!!

karen01 · 10/05/2004 16:29

I kept my legs up against thre wall, with two pillows under my backsideafter sex to make sure nothing came back out only did it as a giggle, but it worked. Saying that we had only been married/ and trying for one month.

LucyJones · 10/05/2004 19:05

I was told to have sex at least every three days as the sperm lives that long and it worked for us. Also didn't go to the loo after sex and tried to keep legs up in the air

smellymelly · 10/05/2004 19:18

Ditto on the wedding BIBIBOO, I'm never going to fit in my dress at this rate!! It wasn't the best month to get pregnant, but we couldn't resist the once, and now I'm expecting Twins!!!

BIBIBOO · 11/05/2004 14:56

Smellymelly, congrats on both counts! Don't worry about the dress - I discovered that bridal dress seams are HUGE and can be let out a l-o-n-g way if needs be! Or they can sew extra panels in, just get your fittings in early so they can order more material fromt he supplier to match!

bundle · 11/05/2004 14:58

sex BEFORE you ovulate, we did & had girls both times.

sweetkitty · 11/05/2004 18:20

I did the ovulation kits sex every 2 days during fertile week the lot started to get paranoid buying test kits 5 days before period was due etc. Decided to have a break and wasn't even trying to get PG.

Got PG after a midweek quickie when I was going away for a few days, the only time we had sex that month but after the deed I had an idea and knew the test was positive before I did it.

I think when the times right it's right and you can never plan these things.

smellymelly · 11/05/2004 19:07

Thanks BIBIBOO, I never thought about adding material in the sides, what a fantastc idea - I will get on to bridal shop tomorrow. Thankyou!

BIBIBOO · 12/05/2004 16:05

Smellymelly,
Hope the bridal shop can help - believe me they will try their best as they can charge the earth for alterations, knowing full well you have no choice but to pay!
It will be worth it in the end though, and lovely when you look back at your wedding pics, knowing your baby was there too, probably listening to everything you and your husband said! Okay, so maybe not, but it's a cute thought!

We tried for 2 yrs to concieve DS1,and had tried just about everything including charts, legs up the wall etc. Then I read somewhere (can't remember where) that zinc and vitaminins A, C and E (antioxidant) suppliments can drammatically improve sperm quality/count. DH dutifull took them and hey presto got pg that month. With DS2 we were kind of trying, not seriously, but DH had been taking vits for a month as a "preparation", anyhow I got pg and we'd only done it the once. I was stunned, but thrilled and DH disappointed as felt he had been robbed of all the reaaly hard trying we'd previously enjoyed!

Move house. Worked for us twice!

bootsmonkey · 12/05/2004 17:05

Give up job, have two weeks in Greece, come home and figure out how to find job and pay mortgage and have baby

sibble · 13/05/2004 04:57

decide it's never going to happen, give up with healthy diet, resume copious amounts of alcohol and diet coke and bingo - spend the next 9 months happy but worried. (am 27 weeks at the moment)
