Is this Braxton Hicks? I never had any with DS so no idea what they feel like.

It's so so painful!
I've taken some painkillers and got into bed hoping they ease off. Any other tips?

I have called the maternity day unit and they have told me to take some paracetamol and see what happens.

I think they're being incredibly slack and fobbing you off, to be honest. Do they know it's a twin pregnancy? Do they know that you were having regular pains? If it were me, I'd go in a get physically checked out. As a previous posters said, labour can stop-start, including premature labour - mine did. 50% of twins are born preterm - obviously most of those will be late preterm, but many won't, and I think it's worth reiterating in the circumstances.

My BH can be really painful, it depends on baby's position. They're worse if I'm on my feet, and I do get a succession of them if I've exerted myself. I didn't get them with DS1! But please get checked as you're having twins

I also think you should get checked out. Better to be safe than sorry Flowers

Some trusts seem more relaxed than others. My trust would have had you in gmfor monitoring immediately. I was encouraged to go in twice for much less serious reasons.

How are you Rocker?

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 17/07/2015 10:15

No experience with twins but I got extremely painful braxton hicks when I was stressed and overdoing it at work.

I got a lot anyway through both pregnancies but stress and physical activity [running waddling fast for train] were two links to the really painful ones.

If you are concerned, then insist on a check. Early labour is to be avoided at all costs !

This was me from 17 weeks, I had a cerclage.....they were horrendously to the point hat when I went to hospital the midwives said they were registering on the chart as labour.

I could make them stop if I lay on my side. Was odd. And very painful.

RockerMummy184 · 20/07/2015 15:19

Argh...it's started again. Been constant for the last 2 and a half hours! Although today is slightly different as it is now accompanied by a delightful helping of 'fanny daggers'.
MAU not interested, told me to take paracetamol and have a bath again. (Not helpful as I'm at work!)
Is this going to last for the rest of my pregnancy?!

Hmmm i think I'd head to labour ward and ask to be checked out too. Could be a sign of a UTI as well. Hopefully they are just Braxton Hicks and nothing to worry about, but I think with twins and this early in your pregnancy I'd err on the side of caution.

BabsUnited · 20/07/2015 15:55

I agree, sounds like you need to physically go to your hospital and don't leave until someone examines you. If it's early labour, which it could well be, you need to be seen sooner rather than later.

BabsUnited · 23/07/2015 14:28

How are you Rockermummy? Hope all's well Flowers

RockerMummy184 · 23/07/2015 16:22

Hi Babs. Have spoken to my MAU several times about this now as it seems like it's becoming a daily occurrence. They have told me I most likely have an 'irritable uterus'.
They have not shown any concern in the slightest, so I have just been taking painkillers and sleeping it off wherever possible.

I will be asking my consultant about it at my next appointment though, as I am worried how I'll know if I'm in pre-term labour if this keeps happening!

I had an irritable uterus with two pregnancies. The last time I was told I had to go in just in case. Every day or two from 27 weeks until 35 weeks. Sometimes out in hours. Sometimes kept overnight. But they always wanted to check it wasn't anything more. I would discuss a plan of action with your consultant - maybe the local midwives could come and check on you?
