What can I eat!

It has been a long time since I was pregnant and I am completely at a loss as to what I can and can't eat.
Was happily tucking into a Chicken Fillet burger in KFC with DD this afternoon and suddenly realised I shouldn't be eating mayonaise. What other delights should I avoid. REALLY avoid.

The question to ask is who have known get food poisoning from this? I would avoid liver (high vit A content), raw eggs, - you are also supposed to aviod swordfish and marlin, tuna and well cooked meat (I am a veggie so don't eat thses anyway) I ate cheese because but the advice is to avoid blue and soft cheese. The adice is also to avoid peanuts because of allergies oh and soft whippy ice-cream.

Not whippy ice cream. Like Mc Flurrys and stuff?

I love Mc Flurrys

Soft whippy Ice Cream is normally made from a powdered milk that is not always pasturised. The biggest prblem with this Ice cream though is that the Machines that it comes from can harbour bacteria causing listeria as they are very dificult to clean and not always cleaned properly.

I pretty much eat anything I like. I think the risks of a lot of foods in pregnancy have been massively overstated. French pregnant women are only told to avoid unwashed salad vegetables and they have no higher incidence of listeria, toxoplasmosis or salmonella in pregnancy than British women do.

I am in France and this is exactly right. Eating in restaurants is the only place that they warn you to be careful of products such as Meat, cheese, eggs and never salad in a restaurant. As you can be unsure how it has been cooked or prepared or where it has come from. You are right though, there is no higher evidence of deformitys or problems caused by bacteria or food. I am sure there is no automatic resistance to these problems just because you are in another country?
