Slapped Cheek

My DD has what looks like Slapped Cheek: moderately high temp, bright red rash on cheeks, etc. I'm 6+6 weeks pregnant and had read that there is a risk when exposed in the first trimester, and given that I've had three previous miscarriages, I got rather worried and called my GP.

He seemed utterly uninterested, and didn't really know why I'd bothered calling him. I said that the NHS website advised calling GP/midwife, and all he said was "well, I don't know what they think we can do about it!". I've no idea whether I'm immune - I asked my mum if I had it as a kid and she says she doesn't think so.

I can't get the worry out of my head though. I don't have a midwife yet - my booking appointment isn't for another week or so. I do have a scan on Friday though, because of my recurrent miscarriage history. Do you think it's worth talking to them then?

Coincidentally I actually read something about this recently . The woman was further on. Her gp did some tests on her and it turned out that she wasn't immune and had caught the disease . The disease had made the baby really anaemic and she had to have blood transfusions whilst inside mum.
Now this early, I think all they could do is test your immunity. If I was you I would try to get hold of a midwife before next week and get some answers-if she doesn't know then she needs to find out.
I am really sorry I have probably scared the crap out of you but if I was in your position I would want the information.

Thanks, Up, that's sort of what I thought people might say. I'll see if I can find a phone number! In my area there's a central unit of midwives who visit doctors surgeries, so I just need to track down that central number!

Surprised they weren't interested, same happened to me (18 months ago) but I was further along, midwife still did blood test to check immunity (results took 2 weeks if I recall which was a bit nerve wracking) do chase it up.

Ps my parents didn't think I'd had it either but I obviously had!

I've left a message for the midwife team and asked someone to call me back. Fingers crossed!

I got this reaction to start with from the gp - I needed a blood test to check my immunity. It seems to be quite a new connection that has been made so lots of hcps have to look up what they need to do!

To reassure you, I had no immunity and was exposed at a particularly bad time, so they checked my immunity again at 20wks but didn't catch it myself and all was fine with baby.
