So, I'm currently 34+1. I am at work for another 3 weeks before I start mat leave. I work in a University so, at the moment, things are V-E-R-Y quiet; all of the students have buggered off home and I'm not involved with exams/resits/marking any of that malarkey. July & August are always absolutely dead for my team so most people go off on hols. I've been a bit too keen and already done all of my handover stuff (whilst my brain was still vaguely active!), cleared out my inbox, done a load of filing/housekeeping. I've literally run out of things to do and there aren't any suitable new projects I can pick up so close to going on leave as they'll all be longer-term ones. I've even emailed out to other team leaders, etc. to see if there's anything that anyone needs done and there's nothing. It's like everyone thinks I should be taking it easy! But I don't want to start mat leave any earlier, because I want to have as much as poss once baby is here.

I DO want to use the next few weeks vaguely 'constructively' Wink though. Can anyone recommend any good videos/websites/blogs/online resources, etc. which I could use to get prepared for the birth & early stages? This will be my first baby. I have access to Netflix, YouTube, internet (obvs), Spotify...and a very accommodating boss; in fact, it was partly her suggestion!

TIA

If you're planning to breastfeed, get reading the kellymom website. Evidence based information and advice about breastfeeding and the more educated you are about it, the more likely you will be to succeed

How about learning to... Crochet, knit, etc?

Pinterest for batch cooking meals, time saving ideas, organising the home, baby nursery ideas etc...

The Red Cross have an online baby & child first aid course which would be worth going through.

Thanks all.

The Red Cross thing looks v. interesting.

As for learning to knit/crochet...it's a lovely idea but I am HOPELESS at anything crafty. Not for want of trying! Smile

Am also hoping to breastfeed so will have a look at the kellymom site, especially as virtually every one of my friends who've had babies wanted to breastfeed but were sadly unable to for various reasons. It would be good to understand more about how to increase my chances!

Count your blessings! Am in my last two weeks at work and am working on a massive project where people are trying to make me work weekends and everything!

is there a home project you can do like sort through and file all your years of photos (I have this pencilled in for mat leave!)

Skeppers · 29/06/2015 13:47

Oh, I do realise how lucky I am! It's felicitous timing that I'm due at the quietest time of the year work-wise, by no particular design or intent. I do work my arse off for the rest of the year though!

There isn't really anything I can do at home; we've had a good 6 weeks or so of solid 'sorting' plus we're renting so no exciting DIY or decorating projects lined up. We don't really have any photos! Is that a bit weird? Both DH and I are a bit photo-phobic. Sure that will change once Junior comes along though! Grin
