Heatwave a-coming - tube game plan

OK Londoners, with the temperature set to reach 32 in London on Wednesday, who else is getting a wee bit nervous about travelling on the tube? I fainted (not even on the tube, just in warm weather) the other week so am worrying a bit.

Of course I will be very politely but firmly asking for the priority seat (first up is always the chap who I know has seen me but pretended not to, mwa ha ha).

I've ordered a little electric fan which I hope arrives in time and will be carrying water.

What's your game plan?

Tube and train sufferers have my sympathy.
I drive to work so that isn't an issue, but im in a classroom with very poor ventilation and by the end of the day it's 30 degrees. I think tomorrow is going to be a real struggle. Any tips on how to cope with it?

Marsaday · 30/06/2015 15:55

P.s. Not to mention that poor ventilation + sweaty smelly teenagers = even worse nausea.

It's best to half fill a bottle with water, lay it on its side and freeze, then top it up with water and you will have ice cold water that is drinkable too

I've booked tomorrow afternoon off, but will come into work in the morning. My cleaner is coming tomorrow so I don't really want to be waddling about the house in my pants and getting in her way (first world problems).

We have our work summer party tonight so I'm going to stay for that in the hope that leaving work later means that it will be cooler and less crowded on my tube/train route home. I cannot be doing with 5.30 rush hour today.

Hi everyone.. Dreading tomorrow... Please how did you all get on today and who is on tubes tomorrow?

TimeforaDietCoke · 30/06/2015 19:57

Just got home, drinking water with ice and sitting with my feet in a washing up bowl of cold water! The glamour! Dreading tomorrow. On the plus side there were lovely people on the train and tube today who gave up seats for me.

A few lines are now air conditioned, I think metropolitan, Hammersmith and City, and now the district from wimbledon-Edgware. That pretty much covers north to South and East to west if you can change into those lines, then uber taxi or walk where possible.

If you can walk as not as heavily pregnant cutting through the parks works well if you walk in the shade under the trees

Toothfairy7 glad I could help Grin

Marsaday, this may not work for you, but I emailed my school's caretaker yesterday saying that I was really struggling in the heat and asking if there were any fans in school. One had appeared in my classroom by the time I got in this morning. I did refer to pregnancy in my email, so I wouldn't be surprised if that triggered a bit of a health and safety concern, but the caretaker is also unusually lovely. Today was much better with a fan blowing on me all day!

Number3cometome · 01/07/2015 08:03

Speed restrictions meant sitting in the sun for ages on the train yesterday! Booked today off, can't cope!

37+3 and working until next Friday (10th) then packing up.
I'm on twice weekly monitoring at the hospital so it breaks the week up.

Marsaday · 01/07/2015 19:23

thanks titus i did think about that but the realised there is no plus socket at the front of the room to plug a fan into, and my room being long and narrow means that a fan at the back would cool the kids there nicely but the breeze wouldn't reach me.
I bought a mini fan yesterday. Got it home, toddler grabbed and immediately broke it. Was over 30 degrees in some of our rooms today, kids were melting and i was desperately trying not to faint or puke.
