Hi folks this might seem like a long winded thread but I need to say everything to make sure if possible my quesyions/concerns are answered.

Ok so 2 years ago I had my first glucose tolerance test and my results were deemed fine but only just therefore not treated as having diabetes. Anyway when ds1 was born he was 8.12lb which is ok in the 62nd centille which isn't bad considering went over by 8 days and ended up having an emergency c section. Anyway the ward was awful the staff although I appreciate they were short staffed and rushed they were neglectful rude unsympathetic and left alot of the ladies who had just had a c section without even a drink for 16 hours and didn't help at all when your baby needed a nappy change etc even though 30 min prior you were in a recovery room after your major operation! That's not the worst bit either!

So found out I'm pregnant again had my gtt last week and found out that hey had significantly reduced the limit of a healthy blood sugar level. Well my results came back better then last time but apparently one of my results are 0.3mmol higher then they should be therefore be if treated as diabetic even though baby at the mo IS's measuring in the 50th centille (30 weeks). Anyway I just wondered if any of you ladies who have had gestational diabetes wpuld be able to give me any advice on what to expect pre birth and after birth just so I know what to expect as having an elective section because I do not want to stay in there any longer then necessary! Thank you so much in advance sorry for rambling on! Appreciate any comments x

No it's my third. I have a DS who was 10lb 3oz, hence the need for the test. I'm only 9 weeks.

And I'm suffering from morning sickness so eating anything I can stomach; which unfortunately involves shitloads of carbs.

Oh no sorry didn't realise you were so early . Your sugars should be fine now it's when you get in 2nd or 3rd trimester. Hope everything goes smoothly x

I've been eating carbs too and sugar Blush. I just feel hungry all of the time. I have been eating lots of fruit but I don't think that is good either Sad. On the plus side I don't drink much milk at all. I think I am going to have to eat more chicken salads and lean meats.

I would be worried about having a caesarean. I already have two children and can't really afford to be off my feet for two weeks and possibly not driving for even longer as the school run is over 30 miles each day. I was really hoping for a vaginal birth as with the last two I was up as normal very quickly. Obviously DH would do whatever is required if I am off my feet for longer.

I was also hoping to give birth in the midwife led unit rather than on the ward. The guidance for the hospital says those with gestational diabetes have to give birth on the wards but the midwife has said that it is possible to give birth in the MLU if all the monitoring shows everything to be okay. I gave birth vaginally and without complications to my previous 10lb baby so I am keeping my fingers and everything else crossed.
