5 month pregnant and European city break?

I will be about 5 months pregnant and am looking at doing a 3 day European city break with hubby.

I have talked about it with a couple of friends who have said that as I have gone through a couple of rounds of ivf getting pregnant that I shouldn't risk it and do something in the uk. They have also said at 5 months they were very uncomfortable with growing pains etc.

Any advice? Should I just stay closer to home?

If you are feeling fine & not having any problems I say go for it! I went to New York for a week with the hubby while 5 months pregnant. I had a lot more energy than in the first trimester so was able to spend the whole day out & about sightseeing. Now I'm 7 months pregnant that feels like a distant memory!!
Only advice would be to make sure you have good travel insurance, wear flight socks, & drink lots of water!

It's fine, to make yourself happier book in a west Europe rather than East Europeon countries due to better medical facilities.

Portugal would be my recommendation. Lovely and warm, nice beaches to relax on, and some town and city sights to see. Close flight (2 1/2 hrs), good food hygiene.

The Alps are nice. Lots of ski hotels in summer do good deals with spa treatments, etc. None of the silly rules and regulations we have in England for everything, so massages and so on are fine. Scheduled flight to Munich is pretty easy.

by 5 months you will have had your 12 and 20 week scans and will know that everything is fine. I just got back from a 4 day break in Mallorca with friends; I was 23 weeks and one of my friends was 28 weeks. I was very careful with flight socks, loads of water, walking up and down the plane, staying out of the sun, watched what I ordered... my friend snored for the entire flight, sunbathed until she went deep brown, lay flat on her back round the pool, scoffed the goats cheese and spanish deli meats... and we were both absolutely fine, with cartwheeling happy babies enjoying their relaxed mummies!!

if you can go, do; it'll be a long time before you can do that kind of trip again. but if you know you won't enjoy it for worrying, pick somewhere lovely in the uk instead. there is a beautiful spa in the lakes called armathwaite hall where I am taking the OH in august; there are lovely beaches in devon and dorset and cornwall - if you know yourself that you would be worrying too much, then make it easy on yourself.

5 months was perfect time. Went to Rome, was hot and needed to rest lots, bit all fine. We am going to France at 7 months and not as Mobile, will probably do more lying by pool.

Another one who thinks it's the perfect time.
The second trimester is by far the best time to travel - you're not tired and sick any more (usually) but not huge and uncomfortable either.
I've booked to go away at 6 months pregnant for this exact reason - make the most of a bit of freedom before Dc2 turns up.

I had PGP at 5 months so walking around on a city break would have been a nightmare for me. The only break I want is one sitting on the couch at home!

"The second trimester is by far the best time to travel - you're not tired and sick any more (usually) but not huge and uncomfortable either."

Speak for yourself, I've been tired throughout all of my pregnancies at all stages, the exhaustion is unbelievable.

Runningupthathill82 · 24/06/2015 13:45

Erm, Blow - that's why I did speak for myself and put (usually) in brackets.

I'm well aware I'm not speaking for everyone, but 99% of the posters on this thread have agreed they felt better during the second trimester than at any other point in their pregnancy.

I'm sorry you had a crap time throughout.

Hophop987 · 24/06/2015 15:43

Definitely go and enjoy yourself! We went to Thailand when I was 22 weeks. I felt great throughout my whole pregnancy but definitely second trimester is the most comfortable for travelling.

batfish · 24/06/2015 17:42

It's difficult to say as everyone is different. Personally I have felt fine all the way through, I have been on 4 x 6-8 hour flights which were fine and I am now 25 weeks and a city break would be no issue other than that if I stand or walk for a long time I get a bit achey but with lots of breaks I would be good. So I would say go for it - but then others don't feel great and have lots more aches and pains and probably wouldn't enjoy it so much. Tricky one! Enjoy whatever you decide to do Smile

We went to Malta when I was around 20w, and I did get a bit uncomfortable on the plane, so I'd recommend not flying too far! The actual holiday was great though.

I also went to San Diego at 11w. Fortunately that was premium economy, I don't think I could have survived 11hours in an economy seat!
