I've just started go get some spd-like pain

It's coming and going but I'm only 23 weeks

Anyone got any positive stories of the pain going away/ not getting any worse??

Poor you !

My positive story is that despite going in to the delivery room on crutches I was able to walk without them a few hours later straight after giving birth.

It was horrendous with dd#3 and it started much earlier with dd#4 - was I panicking!!!!! It really was ok that time though I think the diff was that I knew what it was and was careful not to aggrevate it etc.

My friend who had spd with her first was also much less inflicted the 2nd time around again she thinks because she made sure she didn't let it get that bad in the 1st place.

mine was gone by 28 weeks !

I am hoping it is just temporary and maybe a side effect of yesterday's yoga class

My story is pretty positive. I got a really bad bout of spd at 13 weeks, just after my ms stopped, so that really got me down. For about a week I could neither walk nor turn over in bed without literally getting tears in my eyes.

Ordered Fembrace, and started doing a mild exercise routine to strengthen the muscles around the hips and mobilise the joints (for the first two weeks, dh literally had to hold me up and put me in the positions). It got gradually better, am now 34 weeks and only ever get sore after a very heavy day's work.

I never took the Fembrace out of its packet

I had a walking stick/brace/was still in agony! BUT the positive and surprising story is that my physio told me doing lots and lots of pelvic floor exercises had helped her when she got it. I started doing 300 a day, and within 3-4 days I was feeling loads better! They worked a lot better than the 'proper' physio exercises, even though I didn't believe they would tbh . Sounds like a right chore but doesn't take that long really and has been well worth it. Good luck TheBlonde, take it easy for a bit too

A further question for those in the know...

will yoga make my SPD better or worse?

I would say no more yoga for the time being - You need to keep your legs together as much as possible. Pilates would be better, as long as you choose your moves carefully.

Celery · 10/12/2006 13:13

It's a really difficult balance. My SPD was much better second time around, because I basically stopped doing anything physical - no exercise, no walking, no housework, no pushing shopping trollies. I was a self enforced invalid for 8 months, but it was worth it, because the SPD pain really was minimal. Prevention is better than cure. However, after 8 months of inactivity, my fitness levels were obviously terrible, and my recovery after the birth ( not from SPD, but just physically generally ) was really hard and slow.

Thanks Celery, overall it's been much better since I stopped yoga. Feel a bit sad to not be doing it anymore though
