Pre -eclampsia or hypertension??

Is it possible to have Pre-eclampsia without the protein in the urine?
I have been monitored for 2 hours after a routine ante-natal, due to high BP 144/95(Diastolic has never been over 70 before).
For the past week Ive felt really unwell. Had swollen hands and feet, very dizzy, headaches, spots/glitter floaters in eyes and feeling very hot but temperature normal.

Hospital took bloods from me too, didn't say why though.
I am due on thursday 16th Nov.
The babies heart rate was erratic and had to be monitored for ages.Less movements than usuall too.
Anyone had similar or know what could be wrong?

From my experience, Pre-elcampsia can involve all or some of the symptoms you listed.

I had protein on it's own for 4 weeks before my blood pressure shot up.

Are the hospital expecting you back? Or are they leaving you til your due date?

TBH, I would have thought they would have kept you in if they were concerned.

Hi Yes you can have pre-eclamspcia without protein in your urine, protein is just one of the signs.
If you have pre-eclampcia then the only cure for it is to delivery they baby and as you are not far off your due date the baby shouldn't have any problems.
They will take your bloods to check your blood count and make sure your blood is doing what it should.

The 'proper' definiton of pre-eclampsia includes proteinuria but your symptoms would be considered highly suspicious, ime.

Can you contact your midwife to ask about blood results? They really should have told you what they were testing for, but would imagine it was liver function, urea, creatinine etc all of which would give them a better indication of the problem.

Am a bit surprised they didn't keep you in, tbh... Is this your first baby?

i think without protein it is classified as pregnancy induced hypertension...but the other symptoms, especially the visual disturbances & swelling point to pre eclampsia.....

call labour ward if you are feeling poorly...especially with the headaches & visual disturbances...had these happened after your ante natal check

if so definitely call labour ward now IMO...

My blood pressure shot up about half way through my pregnancies. I had to stop work and take it a bit easy, and I was prescribed Labetolol to control it. I was given a box of those urine testing sticks so that I could test for protein every day. The doctor said that it is possible to have high blood pressure in pregnancy without it being pre eclampsia but if I had one more of a list of symptoms, protein, dizziness, swelling, visual disturbance, headache, I was to go to the hospital straight away because that would indicate the beginning of pre-eclampsia. My pregnancies both went to term without any more problems, and my blood pressure returned to normal once the baby was born. As you're so close to term, small76, I wonder whether they'll consider delivering you early? I would get yourself to the hospital if I were you. If they don't think there's a problem, they'll send you home - but I do suspect they'll keep you in so take your bag! Good luck!

apec have excellent advice and information relating to pre-eclampsia. I would definitely support ringing your labour ward asap. If they do ask you to come in for further monitoring, I would also ask if a scan would be appropriate.

HTH

This is my second pregnacy (5 years ago) and had nothing like this first time.
I am going in again today to be checked and bloods will be ready tomorrow i think.

Agree with Lulu and Curlew - I had/have high bp at end of both my pregnancies, and no protein or other symptoms so it was classified as non pre-e PIH. But you do have other symptoms, and in any case high bp needs checking/treating - I would go to the labour ward if you haven't already.

Good luck, wish you a smooth and safe delivery, whenever it is!
