I'm 33+3 and drive everywhere. Question is when should I stop driving completely?

Thanks

I didn't stop driving but around 36 weeks I found it more of a struggle to twist around in the seat to parallel park/ reverse round corners etc so I did stop some journeys depending on what they involved. My last big journey at 38 weeks (70 miles) my clutch went Shock

trilbydoll · 17/06/2015 10:50

I stopped at 39w with dc1 because my car was quite low, I found the driving position uncomfortable and I was struggling to fit behind the wheel. Now we have a people mover, I didn't have any of the same issues with dc2 despite my bump being significantly bigger! The only problem was bending to adjust the seat, so in the end DH was forbidden from driving my car unless he moved the seat back to where he found it!

I'm still driving and it's my due date today! Grin not much choice really, as DS1 goes to nursery 8 miles away. Hasn't been a problem for me yet Smile

HappyIdiot · 17/06/2015 11:01

very much depends on your size and shape and the type of car. I was driving my big Volvo tank thing until the day I went into labour. but I could adjust the seat and steering wheel so it worked. i'm short and had a big bump, I would have definitely struggled if I couldn't have adjusted things.

dh has a little sports car which is low to the ground and has stupid bucket seats that I couldn't even get into from about 32 weeks, let alone drive.

my actual driving wasn't affected at all.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 17/06/2015 11:06

As everyone else has said, no need to stop unless you are unable to get behind the wheel & still reach the pedals safely.

I would recommend pulling over during the actual labour though Wink.

Only problem I can see is if your bump is too close to your steering wheel airbag - you should be roughly two handspans back from it, or the force of it going off can be dangerous. Only a problem if you crash, really !

knittingirl · 17/06/2015 14:35

Agree, I kept driving up until I started having contractions - I was at a friend's house at the time lol but for some unrelated reason dh happened to have dropped me off so was coming to get me anyway. I didn't tell my friend either, just as politely as I could declined her offer that we stay for dinner and scarpered Blush

Buttwing · 17/06/2015 16:50

At the end of my last pregnancy my bump measured 52cms which is absolutely huge. The midwife used to laugh every time she saw me! (In a nice way she was lovely)
And I had no issues driving turning round to reverse was bit awkward but fine.

MissTwister · 17/06/2015 18:18

I don't understand how everyone stops their bump hitting at the wheel - I am only 34 weeks and this is happening! And I am only measuring a little big.

BikeRunSki · 17/06/2015 22:00

I guess it all depends on each person's own combination of height, bump size, leg length, car etc.

Caterina99 · 18/06/2015 15:19

39 + 5 here and no intention of stopping driving unless I am in actual labour! I'm quite tall, bump is not huge, and I have a large car so it's not remotely uncomfortable. Plenty of space between steering wheel and bump!

snickers251 · 18/06/2015 15:32

I passed my driving test at 34 weeks, drove myself to be induced and drove home when they sent me home around 4pm with nothing but mild period pains, dd was born at 10pm but dh had to drive then as I could barely stand Grin

I'd say drive until you don't feel comfortable/confident doing it

formerlyofLadysmith · 18/06/2015 15:39

I checked when I was driving this morning, there is masses of space between the bump & the steering wheel for me at 38w. It must depend on your car & how far back you have your seat - I'm quite tall.

motherinferior · 18/06/2015 15:42

I passed my driving test at 37 weeks - and I'm only 5ft and was enormous, a big round bump all in front.

Then I came home and had the baby five days later.

sianihedgehog · 18/06/2015 15:45

I'm only 4'11" and in some cars I'm too close to the airbag even when not pregnant, that's the only reason it occurred to me. I'm currently fine at nearly 33 weeks in my Berlingo , though.

Watto1 · 18/06/2015 16:15

I drove up until the last minute too, although I did sit on a folded up towel for the last couple of weeks (DH was paranoid about my waters breaking all over the upholstery!)

allgoodthings84 · 18/06/2015 17:30

I'm only 5ft tall and had my baby 3 weeks ago. I was driving right up to the day before my waters broke at 41 weeks. I drive a seat Ibiza so not a big car and my legs are very short, I had no trouble driving. My bump was never huge though to be honest, was measuring 33 weeks at 40+5

HeffaLumpers · 18/06/2015 17:39

I'm 32 weeks and 5ft tall. I'm still driving but can see that I may have to stop at some point near the end because I won't be able to reach. I hope not, DH is on crutches at the moment!

spillyobeans · 18/06/2015 17:44

Untill you cant fit behind wheel? Im lucky i have a van so ample room. Im 40wks and still driving no problems. However parking and coming back to someone parking really close to the driver door is infuriating

crazytyke · 18/06/2015 19:36

I'm short and had no problem reaching pedals at 41 weeks preg
