Maternity exemption certificate - Scotland

Hi,

I'm 19 weeks pregnant and haven't yet received this as far as I'm aware? Have a dentist appointment coming up and know they'll ask for it. I'm in Scotland if that makes a difference! Does anyone know when/how you obtain this?

You can get a form from your midwife but you have to apply for it - you don't get it automatically.

Oh really? I thought all pregnant women got free dental treatment - will go and Google. Thanks!

I've always got a form to fill out and get it from the midwife in amongst all the things she's given me quite early on.
I have been able to use other things as proof until the certificate came though. Think you need to call your midwife and ask.
Don't know if it had changed but she didn't give me actual certificate she gave me a form to send off and get one.

Yes you get the free treatment but you don't just get handed the certificate. You fill out a form and send it off and get a little card thing back with the expiry date and your details on it. It is valid until a year after baby is born.

Oh no - maybe she's given me it and ive missed it. Will have a hunt through my stuff, if no luck ive got another MW app in a few weeks.

receptionist at dentist was v strict that all she would accept was certificate - the dentist actually apologised and seemed embarrassed but I thought it was totally understandable!

You do get free dental treatment when you have maternity exemption card but you have to apply for that card and you need to do that by getting a form from your midwife.

My MW sent off for mine straight after my booking in appointment, about 10 weeks. My exemption card came through the post a week or two later. I'd give your MW a quick phone and ask her if she can perhaps apply for another one?

I'm in Scotland and my MW sent it off for me at my booking in appointment and it arrived a few weeks later :)

I'm Scotland and I knew nothing about this certificate until just now. I had a check up at dentist and just took my maternity notes with me and they were happy enough with that. I'm guessing I'll need one for afterwards though as next check up will be after the birth and they'll want to know when the year is up?

Boo! Will defo get on to this. littlemiss I think it's for the first year of baby's life, too.

This was done at my booking appointment (9 weeks) and the midwife arranged and sent off the paperwork and I received it in the post three weeks later.

I got the form when I went for my dating app ( 8 weeks) and was given the form and I sent it off got my card 2 weeks later - you get free dental and prescription .ive you've misplaced it just call your midwife and she can post one to you:-)
