First baby, not sure on quality of nappies.

What do you recommend?

Aldi in the day and pampers at night time (in our experience they just have a little bit more staying power and absorption than aldis for the nights when ds does sleep through).

I swear by kiddicare just for bums - get them delivered in large boxes buying 2 at a time so i get free delivery

We use aldi nappies and wipes. Any other brand we have tried has given dd nappy rash. Pampers also had a weird smell!

applecore0317 · 12/06/2015 16:27

Aldi and Asda nappies have been great, particularly the asda ones, no leakages with them and £4.50 for 70 nappies

littleostrich · 12/06/2015 16:38

We use Aldi - they seem to fit DS better than the others we've tried, and very rarely leak. Pampers were similar but obviously more expensive, and Asda were OK but didn't fit as well. Sainsburys were awful for us - they seemed to leak nearly every other nappy. It's definitely worth trying a few and seeing what works for you and your DC.

If you want to try reusable nappies many councils will give you vouchers towards them so worth checking with your local one

For newborns definitely pampers - by far the most absorbent (they actually soak up newborn poo!) and feel soft to touch.

Poo seems to sit on the surface of other brands IME!!

orangutanhihio · 12/06/2015 18:29

For newborns pampers are great! I've loved Sainsbury own brand nappies and wipes for years now though, very well priced, absorbent and seem comfortable.

cloth bum mum here too! love them, have a look about them online, there are lots of cheap varieties too.

good think about cloth nappies is they don't smell as bad as disposables and also you don't have to empty the bin all the time.

CunfuddledAlways · 12/06/2015 18:38

Also here to say cloth.nappies :) currently third daughter is in cloth nappies, I know there are no chemicals next to her skin and not had.any leakage :) check out your local nappy library

Another vote for Aldi here. We discovered the '+' size for night times for extra absorbency but maybe only applies to sizes 4 and up. Pampers just not worth the money IMO and Saintsbury's also gave our DS a rash, although I loved the elasticated backs.

HTH!

I think a lot of it has to do with the shape and size of your baby. So probably best to try different ones out and see what you find best for your little one. I find Pampers the best, only ones that don't leak for my ds. We did use Aldi when he was little though and they were fine, then he got bigger and they just kept leaking!! I was spending more on washing his baby grows all the time.

lagirafe · 12/06/2015 20:50

I love Aldi nappies :) also Boots own brand which are a bit more expensive but very frequently on offer !

Shootingstar2289 · 12/06/2015 21:12

I tend to stick to Pampers as never had a problem with them and stock up when on offer.

Tried Boots make nappies once - NEVER AGAIN!! They leaked and my son had a nasty allergic reaction to them. It wasn't a coincidence as he'd never suffered from nappy rash prior or after using the Boots nappies!

pinkie1982 · 13/06/2015 00:41

My preemie currently has a very sore bottom as he was stuck to a pampers nappy which I had to get off with warm water. He was changed two hours before so i don't know why this happened :(
Wondering whether it was something in his small poo he did (but it was wet) or something reacted in the nappy but it was only on his bum.

JinglyJanglyJungleBigGameTours · 13/06/2015 11:10

Oh, your poor DS pinkie Flowers sounds painful! I found liquid paraffin very good for DS's nappy rash, I cleaned with it instead of water until I cleared up. Its very gentle and soothing and very good for removing poo.

pinkie1982 · 14/06/2015 23:52

The hospital gave me a cavilon spray which they told me to try on its own.

Chchchchanging · 15/06/2015 00:02

For newborn it was only pampers baby dry which were ok/everything else was either rash causing or shape meant leaks (huggies)
As ds got to size 4 we were ok with simply dry and aldi during day but again at night rest caused rashes
If it's about buying in advance for budget if only get a small pack of each and instead pop the cash you were going to spend in a pot for when you know what you prefer
