Transverse-lie baby: labour symptoms - anyone???

I'm 36 weeks pg with no.3. Haven't been in labour before as my babies have all been tranny & I have a bicornuate uterus which prevented turning them by ECV, so I have had elective c-sections at 38/39 weeks. This time I am scheduled for one at 39 weeks as my baby is also transverse-lie. Anyway, my ANC appointment (when I was going to ask about this) has been moved to end of week and I am concerned about period-like cramps (keeping me awake at night), lower back ache, feeling sick & fluid/discharge that I am leaking slightly. Also can't sleep/finding it hard to walk but remember that from before.
Shoud I be worried? Does anyone know if you experience normal 'going into labour symptoms' when baby is in this position? Thanks.

My 4th was a transverse lie. I had no idea until I was 38 weeks. I woke with terrible pains - not labour pains. I was admitted to hospital and they prepared me for a cs. They decided to wait and I had to stay in hospital until I had an elective cs at 39+6 weeks. Had lots of pain in bump and lower bcak, the occasional contraction but no other symptoms of labour. Give your mw a call. The fluid leaking might be important.

Thanks Megalegs. I am hopefully seeing m/w tomorrow now. They don't seem that concerned!

loving tranny babies!!

leaking fluid....hmm...how sure are you it's not your waters?

castlesintheair · 14/11/2006 14:09

I'm not Lulumama! Could my waters have broken do you think? There has been no more leakage since my OP this morning.

possibly not then.if it has stopped..the hospital can tell you when you go.....if your waters had gone, you'd still be leaking...especially as baby is not engaged to stem the flow of water.....

castlesintheair · 14/11/2006 14:26

Thanks Lulumama, that's reassuring to hear. I will try and hang on until tomorrow.

I'm not an expert but could it be the hindwaters. A friend had a bit of a leak for a few days before going into labour but when examined her membrane was intact and she was told it was the hind waters. Someone might know about that. How are your aches and pains?

lulumama · 14/11/2006 14:30

castles....if you are worried...there is nothing to lose by calling the midwife.....even if you are going tomorrow! if you are having regular pains, that are getting stronger and more intense....give them a call too...!

lulumama · 14/11/2006 14:31

megalegs... i don;t know if that can happen with transverse babies as no head / bottom in the pelvis to plug the gap ! so the water would keep coming out IMHO....!

My cramps have eased off since this morning strangely, although bump is very sore but that could be the position? If cramps start again or more fluid leaks, I will get in touch with m/w asap. Thanks for asking and the reassurances. This is better than speaking to my GP

Hi Castles! Just got back from OB, and she is very adamant that any cause for concern and I should pay them a visit and get checked...they do like to be careful with us tranny-carriers! So if you get anything else, do call that MW, ok?

I've had some periody feelings, but nothing regular or contraction like (as far as I can tell, not having been in labour either) and lower backache on one side: my whole bump looks lopsided, so suspect backache is due to baby's lie. Very interesting to hear MegaLegs' experience, sounds like we're not going to get the standard signs....

MegaLegs · 14/11/2006 15:57

My bump was so sore - but from the inside. I was in tears at the hospital as so many people kept examining me. I just didn't want to be touched.

castlesintheair · 14/11/2006 16:25

Thanks Eli
My periody cramps were continuous as well, not contractions so not worrying too much about them but am worrying about possible leaking fluid. Going to loo and checking regularly!
Megalegs, I think I know what you mean about inside bump being sore. At the moment the baby feels like it is going to burst out and it's so tender. DD just jammed her elbow into LO's head as well. Ouch!
