I'm 34+5 weeks. Today I've felt baby move less than usual. I have been pretty active, up walking etc, all day today and haven't really sat down much.
How long should I wait until I actually contact maternity unit or whatever?
Baby has always been really active so I'm a bit worried!

Go now. Probably fine, but go anyway Smile

startwig1982 · 09/06/2015 19:57

If you are concerned then contact your midwife. It's better to be told everything's fine than wait and have complications. They won't mind seeing you.

LolaStarr · 09/06/2015 19:58

Definitely get checked right away!

heatherxo · 09/06/2015 19:59

Can I contact my mw at this time?
Or would it be the hospital?

Yep, phone right away- they'll probably want you to come straight in for monitoring.

BreadmakerFan · 09/06/2015 20:00

I'd go now. Quicker reassurance hopefully.

Penguinandminipenguin · 09/06/2015 20:00

If you're worried at all, phone your maternity assessment unit to get checked out just in case.

MrsKCastle · 09/06/2015 20:01

Probably hospital- look at your notesfor a 24 hour number.

Purpleball · 09/06/2015 20:02

Phone the labour ward

WoweeZowee · 09/06/2015 20:04

There's usually an assessment unit (for hospital) no in your notes. Call them rather than your MW and just ask them to pop you on the monitor. Sure it'll be fine - I usually notice movements less if I've been active and busy but always better to get checked and be on the safe side! Smile

heatherxo · 09/06/2015 20:06

I'm from Scotland but currently in England.
Baby has just started moving a little but its not like he usually does..

WoweeZowee · 09/06/2015 20:21

Ah, so you're not at home? I guess you'd need to find your closest hospital/maternity unit... I think the NHS website is usually pretty helpful to get local facilities and contact details to be able to give them a call and see what they say. Apologies if I'm stating the obvious, mind you!

heatherxo · 09/06/2015 20:27

Thank you, ill give the local maternity ward now just to be on the safe side

All the best Smile Smile

StAlphonsosPancakeBreakfast · 09/06/2015 20:39

It might well just be that you're feeling it less as the baby gets bigger and has less room to move around - but no harm in being safe. Fingers crossed all is well.

AnythingNotEverything · 09/06/2015 20:42

StAlphonso - movements change as baby gets bigger but shouldn't reduce.

OP hope you are on your way for monitoring.

StAlphonsosPancakeBreakfast · 09/06/2015 21:12

Anything that makes sense, thank you. I am hopeful too that OP is getting monitored, I certainly didn't mean to suggest she shouldn't.

BreadmakerFan · 09/06/2015 21:16

Any change should be checked. More than normal, less than normal. Get checked.

heatherxo · 09/06/2015 21:56

In the waiting room now, hopefully wont be too long till I get seen :)

OP posts:
heatherxo · 09/06/2015 23:01

All clear! We are guessing baby has changed position and that's why I haven't felt movements as much.
So glad I went in, feeling so much better now :)

OP posts:
MrsKCastle · 09/06/2015 23:12

Glad all is ok.

AnythingNotEverything · 09/06/2015 23:25

I'm so pleased OP. Well done for going in.

StAlphonso I don't like to correct people online but the whole "movement reduce towards the end as baby runs out of room" idea is one of the myths that Count The Kicks are working very, very hard to dispel. Their literature is very clear that movements change but should not reduce, and that any reduction should be reported.

I just can't bear to leave a post which perpetuates that dangerous myth unchecked. Nothing personal Smile

WoweeZowee · 10/06/2015 06:59

Glad everything is ok Smile

scarednoob · 10/06/2015 09:16

:)

StAlphonsosPancakeBreakfast · 11/06/2015 10:28

So pleased it's all fine, heather!

Anything I hope I didn't sound cranky, I'm really pleased to have had the extra info - currently 19 weeks myself, and generally I'm a very good science-based 'researcher' on this stuff, but clearly it's just repeated so often that it's seeped into my brain even though it's not true. Am going to have to make sure I'm not falling for any other myths. Smile
