20 week scan and low lying placenta

Hello I had my 20 week scan this morning and all was fine. However, my placenta is posterior low. I've been reading that it can go up as the uterus expands, however this is only 50/50 after a previous csection. I had an EMCS with DC1. Has anybody got experiences of this - low lying placental after previous CS?

My last pregnancy I had a low lying posterior placenta, it had moved out of the way by my follow up scan at 34 weeks. This was with dc3 after two sections.

I don't think the previous section should affect it moving if it's posterior, because the scar (which can prevent it moving up) is at the front. I might have that wrong though

Sorry meant to say I thought the 50% stat was for anterior? Posterior is around 90? Go with what your consultant said anyway I might be recalling this incorrectly

Yeah, I do... low anterior placenta at 20 weeks. Also have a C-section scar from DC1. Need to be rechecked at 32 weeks. A bit anxious about the placenta fusing to the scar.

Personally, I wouldn't worry too much if your placenta is posterior.

Posterior low is the same odds as no c section previously- 90 ish percent if it's marginal. Chances of it moving at a little lower if it's occludibg the cervix and quite a bit lower if it's centred over cervix .

Sorry for late reply, thanks for the responses everyone. I think I read the nhs book they gave and scared myself! I thought that too, if the placenta is in the back hopeful less chance for it attaching to old section scar. Norah, how far a long are you? I'm glad all seemed good with baby, now just hoping placenta moves up a bit!

Week scan. Moved out the way at the next scan which I think was at around 30 weeks or so. I was told that most do move. :-)

I've had the same at my 21 week scan, mine is completely blocking the cervix. I feel a bit in limbo until my next scan (diabetes growth scan at 32 weeks) but I think I'm just telling myself that it'll be another cs for me and trying not to worry too much. Dr Google was terrifying so I'm reluctant to search too much for info. A high number, especially posteria ones, move by 34 weeks. Good luck

I'm one of the few that didn't move but DS is here and well and that's the main thing. I'm hoping not to have it again this pregnancy though!

Thank you, I'm gonna stop searching on the Internet. Do you think you should be careful lifting things etc to reduce likelihood of bleed?

I was told to, but to be honest I'm not convinced as my biggest bleed was in bed at night. A lot depends on the grade - it varies from full on pancake at the bottom (complete coverage) to low but not touching at all
