Does Raspberry tea work?

Hi
i am 37 weeks pregnant and been looking for raspberry leaf tea to start drinking, in the hope that my second baby will be a bit early(dd was 4 days late). Can only get Typhoo strawberry and raspberry tea bags. Does anyone know if thatwould do the same job or where i might get the proper stuff?
Also has it worked for anyone?
Thanks

No,the Typhoo wouldn't work, it needs to be raspberry leaf. Try a health food shop. I don't know that it would actually make your baby come early though, but it would help your womb muscles. Babies come when they are ready

Was a bit of wishful thinking,Just want the birth over with now as i feel huge and cannot get comfortable. Like you say baby will only arrive when ready.

Iknow the feeling,I've got 4
Make the most of the1to1 time you have with your first, lots of uninterrupted cuddles and stories, and lots of rest for you...

hi razzled, i remember sitting there like u wishing ds would hurry up n come!! i tried everything that ppl told me the tea, pineapple, sex, curry. u name it i did it,BUT it didnt work, bby will come when he/she ready, enjoy the time to relax rest n take it easy, good luck on your big day x

I think the reccomendation is to prpare your uterus for Labour, help with the contractions and healing after. It is not supposed to bring on Labour. I'm sorry but I believe tjgx is right. These things only help if the baby is ready there and waiting they trigger the inevitable. If it is not all about to happen anyway then nothing you do will bring it on. It will arrive when ready. Really not long now though. Best of Luck

I drank raspberry leaf tea from about 36 weeks, DD was 2 days late BUT I had a four hour labour and no stitches, so that was a bonus - sure it helped

mustrunmore · 12/11/2006 18:01

Not in my case. Just gave me a headache!
Also tried, and failed, with curry, pineapple, walking, gym ball squatting, sex.
Sorry!!

Gemmitygem · 12/11/2006 18:11

I drank loads, gave birth at 39 +2. BUT this was after 50 hours of contractions, so don't recommend it to speed labour!

FoghornLeghorn · 12/11/2006 18:12

I am 39 weeks pg and have been taking RL tablets for about 5-6 weeks now and not a dicky bird so far. Have started getting increasingly more fed up now so have brought the capsules and have been drinking the tea which is foul and nothing like raspberry and still nothing.

Have also tried curry, pineapple, long walks, birthing ball, sex, nipple stimulation and nothing is working.

Here's hoping all this will help toward an easier birth though - good luck

twickersmum · 12/11/2006 18:14

i really believe raspberry leaf tea worked, def made the contractions more efficient imo. i kept drinking it in early labour and actually felt the difference... (though of course could have imagined it!)

Blu · 12/11/2006 18:16

I bellieve that I endured two weeks of drinking liquid hay for no benefit whatsoever!

Rookiemum · 12/11/2006 18:43

Bought the tablets & the tea, went 10days+ ended up needing C section, curiously addicted to the tea by the end though

lulumama · 12/11/2006 18:54

raspberry leaf tea or tablets are supposed to help shorten labour...but it does not induce labour

it is supposed to help tone the uterus and thereby ,make contractions more efficient..and therefore shorten labour...

at the least, you are increasing your fluid intake and there is no caffeine in it!

strawberry and raspberry is not the same

try a health food shop!

WeaselMum · 12/11/2006 19:03

Holland and Barrett sell the capsules - I took them because I heard that the tea is disgusting!

I guess I'll never know if the capsules worked for me or not, but I had only five hours of established labour (and only five hours of mild pains before that) and I had been very very bad about doing my pelvic floor exercises so I can't help but feel they must have done something to help tone my uterus! But they won't bring on labour early, sorry.

PeachyClair · 12/11/2006 19:30

I ahd the capsules- more accurately I MAINLINED the capsules once I was overdue!

Did it work? dunno, but labour with ds2 was 44 hours (DS1 was uinduced) with ds3 about 4 hours.

Nuff said, imo!

LadyTophamHatt · 12/11/2006 19:34

Raspberry leaf tea tastes like shit so anyone who drinks it deserves to be rewarded with an early/quick labour IMO

Honestly...it is disgusting.

Dragonhart · 12/11/2006 19:58

I drank rasberry leaf tea form aobut 38-39 weeks and still went 2 weeks over due. Only just went into labour before the induction but my labour was quick so if it helped with that then I would def take it again.

What have you got to loose? The tea does taste awful though. I put honey in it to make it taste a bit better.

ummbilal · 12/11/2006 20:28

raspberry leaf tea can be mixed with peppermint to improve the taste and sweetened with honey, i used to drink it cold with ice and lemon, I think best to start drinking it at 34 weeks and gradually increase the amount of cups drunk per day up to about 6, its very useful for toning the uterus and i had a very quick but steady labour with my last, good contractions for 5 hours with no pain and then strong painful contractions for 2 hours and baby was born,

I recommend it and i'm a doula!

smittenkitten · 12/11/2006 20:34

definitely has to be raspberry leaf tea - not the same thing as raspberry tea. capsules are available in holland and barret. Don't know if it made a diff but DS (first baby) born with less than 5 hours established labour! it's supposed to strengthen your uterine wall, so it won't make the baby come sooner but should make contractions more effective.

elibumbum · 13/11/2006 13:41

I found a very tasty raspberry leaf tea from the health food shop - it is made by Heath & Heather. I drank it from 36 weeks and DS was born 3 days before his due date. I also ate lots of chilli and went for a very bumpy brisk walk the day before! Don't know if any of this made a difference but it passed the time!

xmasstocking · 13/11/2006 13:46

I drank raspberry leaf tea everyday from about 36 weeks - I thought it was absolutely disgusting and DH had to force it on me! Didn't do any good either as had 24 hour labour with DS and ended up having a c-section!

However, the day I went into labour, I had been to a mexican restaurant the night before and eaten loads of chillis (deliberately), woken at 5am with an urge to have sex (WTF - never had that urge before - DH thought it was his birthday!) and tried nipple stimulation - labour started that day so maybe the old wives tales are correct
