Private room hire at hospitals?

I've only just heard of this, is this possible? I'm not due for 5 months but am planning on having a ELCS and having a EMCS last time. I hated being on the ward for three days and someone mentioned hiring a room?!
I live in Southend on sea I'm not sure if each hospital is different, has anyone else done this and how much was it please?

Just to say that for 250 pounds I could book a room in the private ward of the John Radcliffe. There were amenity rooms for 70 but those couldnt be booked and apparently were rarely available.

I also tried to get my DS into a private room a few years ago and was told very sensisbly by the nurse that they wanted to keep an eye on him and the ward was the best place to do that. Quite rightly so.

For me it was the best 500 pounds I ever spent and they even looked after my son overnight. There was a special visitors room and I seemed to be the only one on the whole ward so very quiet.

Mummy, you do get discarded the next as long as all is well, no jaundice etc. You get paracetemol and ibuprofen as they've stopped issuing codeine, especially if breastfeeding.

Discharged even!

( I think discarded described it well Tranquility)

I will be at Southend too so am following this thread! It is making me consider a home birth as I wasn't really aware what it would be like. They have a birthing centre so I just assumed you get an individual room in this?

In London they're about £900 a night. I am normally very stingy about spending money on things you can get for free but this I would do. I only spent one night on a ward after DS1 but it was torturous.

Basildon has an excellent reputation for maternity services, which were recently rated outstanding by the CQC.
I had a private room at Basildon after both my births - I listed it on my birth plan as a very polite request and was given a room with no charge. However rooms can't be booked and are allocated to women who need them medically ahead of the people who would just like one "because", I would have been happy to not have a room if someone else needed one.
