Hello
I'm about to be a first time mum soon 14th June) and my baby boy is breached so I'll be having a c-section... I was wondering if someone can kindly tell me what happens/what you wear from head to toe/every bit of detail please?
Thank you in advance! :) xx

Mine was emergency rather than scheduled so I'm sure the prep is a bit different. Got epidural, he was born minutes later, then they spent about 20 minutes stitching me up. Again I can't help with afterwards as I was in special care and so was my baby, but I was just brought back up and my husband and mum sat with me for the day.

What do you wear? Compression stockings and a hospital gown, not sure what else you'd wear?!

Main thing is get up and get moving as soon as you can afterwards, you'll heal much faster.

And don't wear nail varnish/Shellac etc.

I read a great tip on here to have belly warmer knickers and stick a maternity pad inside it to go against the scar. Just helped me feel protected. Also hold a pillow against your stomach/scar if sneezing or coughing. Oh and ask for laxatives to make pooing less scary. I recovered really well from mine and was moving about, lifting baby within a week. Good luck

I had an emcs and soentvfiur nights in hospital. The extra night was because my milk didn't come in properly and he wasn't feeding properly. The wound had a large bandage and wasn't too bad to look at. Wear big cotton knickers and take loose belly warmer clothes that don't rub. Walking was hard as the wound tugged but healed well and I was normal by 6 weeks. I had meds including anti clotting injections which I did myself in my belly which was weird but OK. You can't drive for 6 weeks so get friends to pop over and hoover for you! Good luck. X

Should say 'spent four nights'.

I think the girls have covered it,
Make sure though that you pack nighties rather than pjs, you won't want anything tight over your scar while its healing.
Bless you I bet your excited, not long!!

Hi,
I'm in Ireland, so I might be a bit different.
Pack your bags in advance, I thought I'd finish them the day before the planned section (week before due date) but dd decided to come early.
Don't wear nail varnish or shellac.
When I went in they did tests (blood and feeling around) then put me on a monitor. The nurse came back shaved me and put catheter in. You'll have that in till the next day so will be pretty immobile ril it comes out. Getting the catheter and the epidural are the most uncomfortable bits about c section day ime.
Then I was taken to theatre and they did the epidural while dp went to get changed in scrubs. They then put up a screen/sheet . When they are getting the baby out you can feel some rummaging but it isn't painful or uncomfortable. Baby comes out and after a quick couple of test was handed to DP to hold (both my arms were tied down with drips in) so I could see her/kiss her head.
They stitch you up. Then you have to go to recovery while DP goes to ward with baby. This seems like aaages as you just want to be with and cuddle your baby.
You then are brought up to ward and reunited with baby. You will be stuck in bed until they take the catheter out so need to ring if you or baby need anything. For bleeding they will lie you down on a mat with a maternity pad between legs.
Keep ahead of the pain and ask for relief as soon as you feel uncomfortable. Take all pain killers even if you aren't in.pain then as it might come later.
The next day you can change unto your own nightdress. Big t shirt ones that open at the front for breastfeeding are best. Nothing too hot as ward is very warm.

After op you will also be required to wear fetching surgical stockings to avoid blood clots.

I had an elective section. I arrived early and was met by the midwife who would be looking after me. She took some bloods and filled in some forms and then we waited around for ages as there were a few emergency sections to do.
I had shaved my bikini line myself the night before cos I didn't fancy them doing it with a disposable bic.
I put my gown on and walked to the theatre. DH got changed and waited outside while I sat on the edge of the trolley and they put the epidural in- bit sore but quite quick.
DH came in and they lay me down. Legs went all heavy and warm and they cleaned me and put catheter in (all hidden by screen).
Felt a bit woozy as my blood pressure went a bit low but not too bad.
OP itself- felt a lot of pulling and tugging and general rummaging but no pain.
DS brought out. Did delayed cord clamping then wrapped in towel and eyeballed by midwife then straight to me and DH. The way I was lying meant I found it hard to hold him so DH took him after a bit of skin to skin. The midwife took him back after several mins to check him properly.
Stitching up took a while then they wheeled me into another room and I fed him.
Spinal started to wear off so I could sort of move my legs when I got to the ward.
Afterwards no pain at all when I lay still. Catheter in overnight. Out of bed the next morning for a bit- painful and felt wobbly so lay down again. Tried again after a couple of hours and much easier. Sat on chair and pottered to loo and back and that night walked down ward.
Pottered more the next morning and went home that day.
Didn't take anything other than paracetamol and a voltarol suppository for pain but could have had more.
Out for lunch by day 4. Shopping in town by day 7 and driving day 14.
Lovely experience compared to first traumatic vaginal delivery!
Good luck x

I was never separated from DS- did skin to skin and fed no more than 10 mins after delivery.

ChannelingFlop · 30/05/2015 10:13

Oh yes- drive home was pretty uncomfortable going round corners. Drive slowly and take a pillow to press into your tummy
