Daisypops don't be worried.
When I told my midwife and the pediatritian here the restrictions on diet in the UK they were utterly gobsmaked!!!! I was an avid worrier with my first in the UK, constantly checking labels and reading books etc... When I moved to France at 6 weeks pg with dd I found it tough to understand how different the regs are here, although I didn't go stupid, I did relax my attitude on eating whilst pg alot. Although I upped it in some areas, such as eating out and home grown fruit and veg. I wouldn't eat a salad in a restaurant incase it wasn't washed properly etc.... those are the main reccomendations here.
Why is it not an issue here? France have an excellent medical service, infact I think it is the 2nd best in Europe or something like that. I can only think that it is not that big an issue here because although there are risks, the UK are soooo big on covering there backs such a big issue is made out of it. Don't get me wrong i am not against prevention and am pg with no.3 at the moment and still follow a few of the UK guidelines but it has taught me to relax a little and not to panic and worry for the rest of pg if one or two things slip the net un noticed.
