Waters have broken, waiting for proper contractions

Hi everyone

I am 41 weeks today and after my second sweep Monday things are kicking off.

Monday afternoon my bloody show started and came away over Monday and yesterday and then at 7am this morning I went loo and a huge amount of bloody show plopped out into the loo and I done my wee then wiped and stood up, but it then kept coming. I thought maybe I had carried on peeing so put a pad on and went back to bed for an hour then got up at 8 and it happened again so rang hospital. They told me to walk around the house for an hour and see if it carries in then call back.

I did this and it didn't stop so I knew it wasn't wee. I soaked through 5 pads with clear fluid that smells a bit like sperm ha ha.

I got asked to go in to be checked to make sure it's definitely waters and to monitor baby for 30 mins. I didn't need to be tested as when I got there is was coming out loads and they knew by looking at the pad it was definitely waters.

I am now at home as I've not really got contractions just slightly painful tightenings and I've got to go back in the morning at 9am to be induced if baby isn't already here. The tightenings have stepped up since I've been home though.

I'm excited and scared all at once! Never felt such mixed emotions

Good luck!

Woohoo all sounds promising!!

Try to keep moving if you can, and don't be scared, you'll be holding your little one soon Smile

Quinandthem · 27/05/2015 14:05

Rest as much as you can. Eat and drink as you'll need the energy.

This happened to me and did end up being induced but it wasn't an issue because your body and baby are ready.

Pregnant again and wouldn't mind this happening again.

I'm not liking the constant waters coming out though it's a bit uncomfortable ha ha.

My hubby is picking us up a burger and chips meal from our local burger restaurant tonight as a treat. It's better than a takeaway, homemade and juicy. Hopefully I can eat that first ha ha. First baby so might be awhile.

I am getting contractions now but spaced out and easily bareable so got a way to go as yet

I found everytime I changed position I was leaking more water - very weird.

I had a 'last supper' as well. Something I really fancied.

Make sure you have snacks and drinks in your hospital bag as I had to stay in overnight and the hospital food is bad!

allgoodthings84 · 27/05/2015 14:34

The leaking waters is nasty, it just keeps coming every time I get up on adjust position like you say. It's weird not being able to control it

I need to send hubby out when he's back from work (sent him to work when we got home as I'm not in pain and don't want him wasting a days paternity) for snacks as I will not like hospital food, yuk

What snacks do you advise, I only have belvita biscuits and jelly babies at the moment

My waters broke first with both of mine. It took 31hrs until my first was born, 38hrs with my second. I second the advice to rest. You don't need to move things on or worry about staying active. I did first time round and regretted it. I should have just slept.

The constant leaking waters is annoying. It does ease off once the waters have mostly gone. Took a good 10-12hrs though.

I had Chinese takeaway 20hrs in with my second and then nothing else for the last 18hrs (nil by mouth). I was starving.

PerfectlyPosed · 27/05/2015 14:54

Sounds just like my labour! As PP have said, please take this opportunity to rest. I didn't and baby wasn't born till 40 hours later when I'd had no sleep!

Good luck x

I'm chilled on the sofa now watching TV laying on puppy training pads ha ha can't afford a new sofa if I fall asleep and leak!

I took a packet of crackers and dairylea triangles. Strawberries and grapes. Milkshakes. Choc bickies. Anything that was easy to pick at.

My DH was under strict instructions to bring chicken and salad sandwiches to every visit after I saw the meals that were provided.

My top tip would be stay upright as much as possible. You want baby's weight putting pressure on the cervix to keep things going forward. I found kneeling and leaning over the coffee table or beanbag with my legs spread quite apart helped things move up a bit as I was on a deadline before they started to intervene.

Good luck on your exciting journey.

Unfortunately anything in my knees isn't possible at the moment as I had a fall the other day (was monitored after and everything was ok) and I landed on my knee and it's badly bruised and cut and grazed. Both midwives who have seen it (2 sweeps one Saturday and one Monday) said how nasty it looks and it hurts like a b**h if I put any pressure on it at all. Further on in labour I probably won't notice the pain in my knee so I'm hoping I can go on hands and knees then as I had decided that's how I want to labour! Bad timing!

Sorry for the long post

well Freya Rose Surname was born yesterday at 13.29 by emergency c section at 41+1. She's a healthy 6lbs 12oz, a great size considering bump measured 33 weeks on Monday.

I was oringinally booked in for an induction today but yesterday morning my waters broke at 7am so I went into hospital to be checked that it was waters and to monitor baby. It was definitely waters and everything was fine so I was rebooked an induction for this morning if she didn't come along before.

Yesterday my contractions started at 5am and came on thick and fast but baby wasn't moving so I came into hospital with contractions 5 minutes apart to be monitored at 7.30. Then the contractions got closer together and more intense and I was begging for pain relief so got gas & air. By 10am I was in labour suite as my contractions were 4-5 in 10 minutes but I was only 2cm dilated (I was already this much on Monday when I had my sweep). Then by 12pm I was in agony saying I want to die and was only 3cm dilated. I couldn't understand it as I usually have a pretty high pain threshold.

Each time I had a contraction baby's heart rate dipped drastically so at 1pm it was decided I must have an emergency csection as baby needed to be out ASAP and I just wasn't dilating.

After the c section the doctor told me that Freya was in a position that was never going to come of naturally. She was back to back with her head at an angle which literally would never have come out and that's why I wasn't dilating even though my contractions were there.

I laboured for 8 and a half hours on gas & air this way and it was horrible but Freya is worth every second of it. Couldn't get an epidural as wasn't dilated enough

The doctor also told me that the cord was wrapped round her whole body and neck and this was why her heart rate was probably dipping with every contraction. I was told that they got her out just in time.

Everyone who has seen to us here at Kettering hospital have been amazing and have looked after us so well.

Congratulations!!! Glad they got her out quickly and safely :)

Gives me hope, had a sweep on Wednesday and have another one on Monday :)

confusedandemployed · 29/05/2015 07:05

Congratulations!!! My DD was in exactly the same position and I was told the same thing by the guy who did my emcs. Only I got to labour for 36 hours. Lucky me!
Enjoy your beautiful new DD Flowers

OllyBJolly · 29/05/2015 08:05

What a beautiful, beautiful name! Congratulations on the birth of your daughter

SaulGood · 30/05/2015 00:01

Congratulations. She has a beautiful name. Well done you.

As I said above, my waters broke first with both of mine. Like you, mine were in unbirthable positions and after 31 and 38hrs respectively, they were born by emergency caesarean. I know now that my waters broke because they were in weird positions. They ruptured the membranes because of the dodgy positions they were in but couldn't fit through my pelvis like that so labour achieved nothing except stuck babies. It's also common for it to be much more painful than you anticipated because they're not descending, the cervix isn't dilating properly and the pressure is all in the wrong place. It helped me to know that from the waters breaking, they weren't actually coming out vaginally. I know there was nothing I could have done iyswim. Sometimes, they just get into a pickle and thankfully, the wonderful medical staff know exactly how to deal with it.

I know most people don't want an emergency caesarean but really they're remarkable and wonderful things and I bet that tiny baby was worth every second.
