Sorry if this is TMI but I just went to the toilet and this giant jelly like blob came out of me! It was mostly clear in colour but it had a few streaks of brownish going through it. I am 30 + 4

It sounds lile your mucus plug. Ring your midwife asap and have a chat to them as they can give you advise and get you checked out if needs be.

PlumpingThePartTimeMother · 27/05/2015 09:24

Err, that might be your mucus plug. I'd phone the delivery suite if I were you and ask for advice now.

PlumpingThePartTimeMother · 27/05/2015 09:25

Is this your first pregnancy?

WishUponAStar88 · 27/05/2015 09:25

Agree it sounds like your mucus plug. I would phone the hospital/ early pregnancy unit

PebbleTTC · 27/05/2015 09:55

I just rang there, the midwife said its ok to have this and just keep an eye on things for pain etc.

She did say it could be a show but I thought a show means your going in to labour!

Yes, that is what it means, OP. I'm surprised your midwife is so unconcerned. I would call her back.

PebbleTTC · 27/05/2015 10:16

She literally said no need to worry as there was no pains. I've googled losing mucus plug and it does seem to be ok if you don't have any pains and I just read it can actually grow back!

Pebble from what I know of friends, I have had friends who lose their plug or bits of their plug really early and nothing happens for weeks, I have had friends who haven't even noticed it go when they give birth. Obviously if you have pains or lose water or whatever then call back. But losing your plug doesn't mean you are necessarily about to go into labour

Levismum · 27/05/2015 10:30

I've had 6 babies.

I really wouldn't worry. Keep an eye out for any pain or tightenings.

With one if mine i lost the plug at 34 weeks. Really panicked as I was in London with work but lived in Cornwall!

Didn't have her til 41 weeks.

Use it as a good reason to take it a bit easy!Wink

Number3cometome · 27/05/2015 10:31

Pebble

Losing a bit of your plus isn't normally a worry, but it can be a sign something is happening, so please call you Maternity Assessment Unit.

Forget the midwife.

Very important that you do this, explain the size of the blob etc

PebbleTTC · 27/05/2015 11:09

I do have pains in my bowels the last few days but figured it might be constipation or something?

It was the hospital I rang when I was talking to the midwife, I can wait a few hours and call back again if you really think there is a need.

Levismum - I don't think its possible for me to do any less, I have my poor husband doing everything!!

I would insist on being seen, have heard some ladies plugs going and it being a problem when not checked.

That's not to say there is a problem, I personally would just make sure.

Hellohellohowareyou · 27/05/2015 11:55

My plug started coming away on Monday, I was 35 weeks yesterday. Was getting some pains too so they asked me to come in yesterday. Was monitored for a while and they gave me an internal examination, no signs of labour and said plug can start comingn away early. I wanted to get checked out for peace of mind though!

firesidechat · 27/05/2015 12:00

I lost my mucus plug ages before I had my first baby and it was fine. I can't remember exactly how long, but it was at least 2 weeks. I was also 3 cms dilated for at least a week or two and never went into spontaneous labour. I had to be induced when I was 2 weeks overdue. If the midwife isn't worried, then I wouldn't worry either.

firesidechat · 27/05/2015 12:02

Just seen that you have some pains too. In that case I would get it checked out just in case.

Justusemyname · 27/05/2015 12:03

Is baby moving as normal?

PebbleTTC · 27/05/2015 14:09

Yes baby is moving as normal so i will just wait until after work and see how I feel

OP posts:
AbbeyRoadCrossing · 27/05/2015 14:14

I would get checked, 30 weeks is very early and they can give steroids injections for the babies lungs if there's any chance of your baby coming in the next 7 weeks

Allstoppedup · 27/05/2015 14:20

Your plug can come out and reform several times, it's not always an imminent sign of labour. I had a few during my first pregnancy.

If you are having some pains it may be worth getting checked though although it could be Braxton Hicks or something.

Hope everything is ok but don't worry about losing your mucus plug.

Lj8893 · 27/05/2015 14:24

I lost my mucus plug at about 35 weeks. Had a show at 40 weeks (due date) and went into labour an hour later.

PebbleTTC · 27/05/2015 14:32

Is mucus plug and show the same thing?

OP posts:
Lj8893 · 27/05/2015 15:31

It's all mucus, but a show usually contains a lot more blood. Lots of women don't even notice they lose any mucus at all.
