I'm 13.5 weeks and going be single mum so really need to plan everything - as I can leave buying everything last minute one - budgeting two - don't know how I'm going to feel and be further on in the pregnancy - when do I start buying stuff as people say buying too early you are jinxing yourself ?

I don't believe in 'jinxing' a pregnancy. If things are going to go wrong, they will go wrong regardless of whether you have bought some babygros! Start buying things whenever you are happy/comfortable to and when you am afford it. We didn't buy anything until about 30 weeks in my first pregnancy but that's because we didn't have the time before then!

Many people like to wait until after the 20 week scan but there's no reason you have to except I you buy the big stuff too early the warranty won't last so long after baby is born and using it and also you.might change your mind as the weeks go on. I would spend lots of time now looking in the stores and testing pushchairs and so on and saving your money til a bit nearer the birth when you've made up tour mind what you like.

Thanks guys - I've been seeing things on offer and everyone is like don't buy nothing so great to have your opinions - :-)

We waited until 20 weeks but to spread cost of you are happy to start now I would. Don't buy clothes though, if you have friends and family who are going to give gifts. All I would get are some simple sleep suits and vests.

Nothing stopping you from starting now. I spaced out buying stuff across my pregnancy in order to save up the cash. I also joined lots of selling groups on Facebook and picked up a few great items second hand. Remember that a lot of stuff is used for such a short amount of time so it doesn't really matter if it's already used! Oh and apart from the outfit I wanted baby to come home from the hospital and one or two other bits, I didn't buy any clothes at all. People go crazy when a new baby is born and I received gifts from people I'd never even met before (friends of friends). Congratulations on your pregnancy, I hope it all goes well Smile

My advice to start sooner rather than later. I left it quite late and still have more things to buy. The problem I've found is the bigger and heavier I get, the more difficult to do things and in late pregnancy all I want to do is relax and put my feet up. Like you, I'm a single mum to be.

Hay- I'm not superstitious- what will be will be- so I couldn't resist this gorgeous baby grow in next on Sunday- I'm 7weeks! X

We didn't start buying until after 20w but that was more to do with space than anything.

Also haven't gone overboard. Been given a lot from family. But looked at "lists" that shops promote as essential and asked "would I use it"

(For example, a baby bath - both me n OH are tall. The kitchen sink will be easiest for us to use! So got a sponge that shaped for baby that will fit into bowl and support baby)

Look for a charity/nct shop that specialises in 2nd hand. I was in mine today for blankets and they had sooooo much stuff! Prams/walkers/bouncy seats/playmats/clothes galore. All cheap as chips! (The blanket was £2 Perfect condition)

Congratulations and good luck!

Maybe try nct website?

We have had everything including our pushchair since about 23 weeks as we made the most of the jan sales. We were about 9 weeks when we bought our first items, currently 31+1 and suffering with spd so I'm glad were organised x

Emma321q · 26/05/2015 20:34

I have my 20 week scan this week and intend to start shopping if everything goes ok.

I would love to know more about the product you bought for the sink comeagain!!

comeagainforbigfudge · 26/05/2015 20:45

Bought this:

www.homebargains.co.uk/products/3907-baby-foam-bath-support-sponge.aspx

I've yet to use it (baby still cooking) but you can find them on amazon as well.

Royalsighness · 27/05/2015 09:48

My first I had got all the nappies, wipes, toys and pregnancy books by 12 weeks but with my second I didn't buy a single thing until around 20 weeks x

sianihedgehog · 27/05/2015 09:59

Buy whenever you want, jinxing it is bollocks anyways. If you're on a tight budget there's a load of baby bargains at Aldi this Thursday. :)

HelenF350 · 27/05/2015 10:29

We started buying after the 12 week scan. Mainly as it was January so everything was in the sales!

Levismum · 27/05/2015 10:36

With all mine i waited til the last few months as i change my mind so ofter as towwhat i want!

Ultimately you don't need that much.

Personally I preferred quality over quantity.

Good luck with everything.
