Hi, wanting to get to the bottom of why I miscarry at 6 weeks, it has happened twice now. Just want to know if there is anyone out there who has had any tests, and what they actually test for. I believe the NHS will not do this until the 3rd miscarriage, so if any one has gone private, can you advise the cost involved. Thanks all

Just about to turn pc off for the night, but will dig out my list tomorrow for you if thats ok, I had mine after 5mc's though x x x

Sorry for your loss, there is still hope

sometimes the nhs will do it after 2 -y ou will have to be very persistant though.about 1 in 5 pregnancies end in miscarriage so there is agood chance you've been 'unlucky'(horrible phrase) both times.however you can get bloods done eg thrombaphilia screen(?spelling) to test for blood clotting problems.if getting bloods also make sure they send a sample to genetics to check chromomomes of yourself and partner.sorry i dont know price if private.usually these bloods show no problems. honestly ,there is agood chance that this is just horrible luck and next time things could be ok.(i work inthis field ) good luck i know how devistating this is.

I'm sorry for your loss. Do you have any children already?

I have had 1 mc, then ds, then 2 mcs in consecutive cycles. I do not believe there is an underlying problem with me. Lesley Regan's book 'Miscarriage', as well as explaining in detail what is tested for at the tests stage, has an excellent explanation of why she considers it only valid to do tests after 3 consecutive mcs.

It is a horrible experience and of course we all want answers. Sometimes, though, the truth is simply that it was cruel bad luck.

I'm so, so sorry....I had four m/cs in total, over a period of two years or so. To be honest, I wish I'd had testing after two - if you have time and energy to keep going, fair enough: but I didn't, I was in my late 30s to start with.

Anyway...the immune testing list has grown and changed since I had mine done, and no doubt the prices have too. So I'll let someone else give you the list - but keep an eye on the thread to see if there's anything I can add in the next day or so.

FWIW, on my first attempt with an immune protocol - having been found to be borderline on two of the tests - I carried my dd to term; I'm now 36 weeks with another, and again I was on the same protocol.

One thing to watch out for - its a new and still controversial field, and there is mud-slinging between consultants and some disagreement. Its worth asking around and informing yourself, IMO...MN being the perfect place to do so, of course!

Big hugs to you, I'm so sorry for your loss...and yes, there is still lots of hope. xx

i'm sorry you're having such a rough time. i too had a mc at 6 weeks and there was some suspicion it was something to do with an antibody in my blood, so that was tested. this could be the immune tests mentioned by Elibean. I had my tests on the nhs but it was at queen charlottes (if you're in london) and i think they offer pretty much everything privately. they have a special early pregnancy unit too, i think. sorry this isn't more specific but i didn't have the abnormality they tested for (had others!) so now can't recall which antibody it was.

I have had 2 consecutive m/c a couple of times. However, I've had a positive outcome for the third pregnancy in each case. I had been told by gp that no investigations would be done until 3 in a row. So became pg and waited for what I thought was the inevitable so that they would at least start testing what was wrong. Pg continued to term Hopefully, this will happen for you. I just wanted you to know that "3rd time lucky" can happen. Best wishes and hope all goes well with your next pregnancy.

Yes, 3rd time lucky happened for my bf too...though she did take extra progesterone and baby aspirin the third time, in case.
