Dark brown mucus at 35 weeks

Hello! I'm 35 weeks tomorrow and have just had a dark brown mucus discharge upon wiping when I've been to the loo. Kind of like the tail end of a period. Had a few period type cramps this morning but nothing major. I have telephoned maternity triage who didn't seem concerned however if I get fresh red blood or pain I need to call straight back.

Just wondered if anyone else has had this and what the outcome was? Did you go into labour early?

Sounds like your plug, may mean nothing at all though. Good luck!

Sounds like you are losing your plug. Talk to your midwife tomorrow morning.

35 weeks is pretty close to full term. Sounds like you might be holding your baby fairly soon Smile

Yes midwife who I spoke to said it could be plug but can start to lose it weeks before baby arrives. I didn't lose my plug with DS until I was in full blown labour!

I'm scrutinising every single niggle now and driving myself mad! I've been convinced for weeks that's she's going to come early!

If it's your plug I'd insist on getting checked out and maybe getting steroid injections for the baby's lungs just in case you give birth preterm as you're only 34 weeks at the moment and they're more effective given 24 hours apart. I'm not wanting to worry you but I was glad I got the injections in has my 36 weeker luckily had no breathing problems and we were able to go onto the postnatal ward.

Just a quick update! Was still feeling crampy and had a bit more loss of mucus yesterday so went and got checked out at hospital. They monitored me for a while and baby is fine! No signs of contractions and cervix is closed. Still losing a bit of mucus which they say is normal

Great, thanks for the update and I'm so glad everything is okay.

I am not a healthcare professional, but my feeling is that you will be holding your baby fairly soon. Hope you've got your hospital bag packed Smile

(don't forget flapjack or other high energy snacks, in case you have your baby in the middle of the night x)
