Am 17 wks and haven't had a good nights sleep in ages. It's getting worse and am now down to 4 hours a night with all the usual knock on effects that comes with lack of sleep.

Is anyone else having (had) this and can you recommend any sleep remedies?!

I currently don't do caffeine, eat too close to bed time, watch TV in bed. I exercise, eat well, am comfortable on my left hand side..... help!!

I do know exactly how you feel have been having trouble sleeping virtually 5 out of 7 days a week for the whole pregnancy. Am now 25.4 weeks. did actually manage to sleep last night halelulah but just feel worse today!! No pleasing some people. OOnly advice i can give that seems to have helped a bit for me is

  1. keep bedroom window open so that you remain cool, i seem to get so hot that the sweating was keeping me awake.
  2. stop drinking (sips only) after about 2 hours before bedtime. I think it reduces the amount of times to get up and peee!!!

Why do you think you are not sleeping beansprout?

And me!!!
Partly because I can not get comfy, also find I just lay there!!
Agree about keeping window open, also sleep alone!! DH has spent a couple of nights in spare room and I sleep much better!!

hi
I find wearing ear plugs help. I find that if I'm having a bad sleep phase I wake at the slightest noise and if it's after about 3am I just can't get back to sleep, partly because I go 'on duty' and start listening out for ds / burglars / neighbours' children. I know dh will wake up if there really is a problem so I can relax a bit and stop listening. Boot do some comfy foam ones.
Doesn't always work tho. I managed less than 4 hours last night so I'm feeling a bit grotty today too.

valerian/hops is a herbal remedy which works for most people, I used it one or twice a week during both my pregnancies and found it really good.

Changing where you sleep can help, for some reason. Think maybe because it breaks that 'Oh God here I am in bed - must SLEEP' feeling. I always find it easier to nap than to sleep at night because sleeping at night becomes such a loaded thing. If that's true for you too, you can fool yourself into thinking you're napping when actually it's night and it counts as sleep! (not sure if that makes sense...)

Im 37 weeks and not sleeping too well. I cant seem to get comfortable lying on my side and I wake up really hot. The best thing ive found is to get out of bed and sleep somewhere else. Im currently sleeping on the settee as the extra padding is more comfy and I seem to drop straight off to sleep.

Same. I'm also struggling to sleep at night. Partly worry and strange dreams, and also getting up for the toilet. And I wake up at the crack of dawn, the light seems to wake me. I too have found the window being open helps. Not had much bother with the noise (more than usual anyway), but I have found that going to bed early and reading helps. I have also started napping in the day which takes the edge off my tiredness and other symptoms (I get well emotional when tired, even when not pregnant).

Some people swear by lavender - either in your bath or sprayed on your pillow. But others are wary of using essential oils in pregnancy. They do baby products with lavender and camomile, maybe you could try that..?

Thanks everyone. Sorry to hear some of you are having the same problem! Unfortunately, I live in the sort of area where it would not be advisable to leave any windows open but think I will give everything else a go!!

Stace, not sure why this is happening, as by my own standards, I am not too anxious at the moment, so it's not the usual suspects of something on my mind or dp snoring!

And thank you too for not saying (as so many have) "get used to it, as when the baby arrives....."
