1-2 weeks pregnant! Too early to get excited?!

Hi, tested positive today and yesterday on various brands including digital which says 1-2 weeks. We have been TTC for. Few months but has been difficult as I have had very long irregular cycles. Am really happy but could this be too early to get excited? I just so want things to be ok. I bought two digital tests so am going to do a test next week and look for the '2-3 weeks' sign before going to the dr. Is funny really as I am pretty sure I ovulated between 12th and 19th may (I had a blood test on the 12th which did not how ovulation but the one on the 19th did) so seems strange I'm getting my positives early! I wonder tho if I ovulated on the 12th May which would make today 9 dpo?! Anyway just so happy but don't want to get too excited as it's so early!

these tests are so stupid, there isnt even any such thing as being one week pregnant....this means one week past conception by which time you are three weeks pregnant by dating protocol.
Add that the extremely high failure rates in the very early days and I think they are more trouble than they are worth.

congrats and best of luck though, hope it works out for you.

Congratulations Grin

Many congrats! About the most exciting thing ever!! If I were you though I would phone doctor now, get appointment for a couple of weeks time and then do your utmost to forget about it (apart from taking folic acid and following nhs eating/drinking advice). Absolutely no point wasting money on more tests (this is what gp told me-a positive once is all you need). You have 9 months ahead of you, pace yourself.

Congrats! A positive is a positive, no matter how early on it is! I used those tests and got 1-2 weeks- she's now a big 2 year old! Smile

In the same boat, am now 2 weeks pregnant (well 4 weeks technically, just 2 weeks from conception). I also feel like it's too early to get excited but I don't care, I'll get excited anyway :)

Congrats! A few thoughts:

  • Those digital tests aren't very accurate. If you have a positive now, it's a positive. If you test again in a week and it still says 1-2 weeks, it's still positive. Don't use them as a gauge of how your pregnancy is progressing. But definitely do test again as chemical pregnancy is a possibility.
  • Feel free to get excited but pregnancy lasts a loooong time. I found out at about 4 weeks, I'm 16 weeks now and I feel like I've been pregnant forever. I wish I'd found out later to be honest and had another week or two of not worrying about what I ate or drank.

Thanks everyone - I know from my first hoes long it seems especially first 12 weeks - might do that with DR then as it takes a couple of weeks to get an appointment! X

Ring the receptionist and ask whether the gp will want to see you at all, ours don't we just self refer to midwife. They don't confirm pregnancies or anything really these days, just tell you to take your vitamins and what food to avoid.

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 21/05/2015 09:53

No point making a docs appointment if you are otherwise well. You can arrange booking in through reception.
CongratsThanks

oneconfusedchick · 21/05/2015 09:57

Thanks - I did that last time - my dr was rubbish didn't even do a test - I left thinking why did I bother and self refered so will prob just do that then

I think it's considered a waste of resources as pregnancy tests you use at home are as good as theirs.

madreloco · 21/05/2015 10:40

why would the drs do a test? they dont need to, or need to see you.

batfish · 21/05/2015 11:45

You should definitely get excited - I don't think it hurts to be aware that things can go wrong just in case - but I ruined what should have been an exciting time when we first found out because I wasn't just realistic I was convinced that things would definitely go wrong - so get excited and enjoy it because chances are that all will be great and you'll never get this time again!

ItsADinosaur · 21/05/2015 14:37

Doctors don't confirm with tests anymore. They use the same tests so it would be a waste of time and money.

geekymommy · 21/05/2015 14:41

I don't think those tests with weeks estimators are using the same week count that generally gets used. If it says 1-2 weeks, that means 3-4 weeks the way that weeks of pregnancy are usually counted, since weeks of pregnancy are usually counted from the date of your last period.

upduffedandworrying · 21/05/2015 14:45

yes that's right, 1-2 weeks means 1-2 weeks since conception, so you would be about 4 weeks pregnant.

I tested 1-2 weeks at 4 weeks, so right on target.

geekymommy · 21/05/2015 14:51

You can get as excited as you like.

If you call to get an appointment with an OB or midwife, they probably won't want to see you till you're 8 weeks or so past your last period (at least this is the case in the US, and from what I've heard here it seems to be in the UK as well). Still might not be a bad idea to make your appointment now, since you'll have a better choice of available times the earlier you make the appointment.

Take your prenatal vitamins, don't drink or smoke, and don't eat the things they tell you not to eat when you're pregnant (exact things will vary from one country to another). Don't change cat litter or do gardening without gloves.

If you have a DP, you might want to talk to him or her about who you're going to tell and when. There are a lot of different approaches to this, and it's good to be on the same page as your DP.
