Has anyone used any recently that they would recommend or not recommend as the case may be?

I was recommended Boots own maternity pads by a fair few people, they said they were soft. Only £1.60 a pack, will find out if the reviews are correct in a couple of weeks :)

I used boots own brand and was surprisingly happy with them, given that I hate wearing towels. They do a thick and thin version - get plenty of both, and it's a real treat when you can change to the thinner pad after wearing the thick ones!

applecore0317 · 20/05/2015 13:14

oooh thanks hoggle, I didn't know they did a thin version, will have to nip back up there.

I used always ultra night pads because I couldn't find any maternity pads with wings, they were great.

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 20/05/2015 13:21

boots enormous thick ones. Very good on any tearing or stitches! Thin ones or mat pads fine a bit later. Smile

I too have been recommended Boots ones, which I've bought (a few weeks yet before I need them). I'm also about to order some washables for when the initial heavy bleeding subsides. I also read that a nappy might come in handy if the bleeding is very heavy at first Shock.

I've got 2 dc and always used mothercare ones and they are absolutely fine (with or without wings) but they are £4.99 for 24 so quite expensive as need a few packs. 29 weeks with dc 3 so might give boots own a whirl.

GingerCuddleMonster · 20/05/2015 13:29

I used Sainsbury's ones they were soft and thick also babies r us ones were weirdly really good too Wink I bought them whilst purchasing baby crap and realised I didn't have any.

Kotex nighttime sanitary towels (black packet) are amazing and usually in the pound shops. Super cushioned, very absorbent and not too wide. I hated having to faff about with wings!!

FinnJuhl · 20/05/2015 13:38

First time used maternity towels, and did not find any of them very absorbent at all. They also don't contour to the body very well (because they're so thick) so they leaked more when I moved about.

Just used Always nighttime pads for my second, and didn't have as much leakage, plus they were more comfortable.

Would recommend you buy a pack of cheap, jumbo-size pants too. Don't fall for the disposable maternity pants option as I did...

Boots-yes. Comfy and absorbent and don't wrinkle too much so not too bad for leaks.
Sainsburys-no. They ended up squashed out of shape quickly so leaked easily.
Asda-not bad but quite narrow so I think I may have leaked early on.
I'm now three weeks post birth and have switched to general sanitary towels. I was advised not to use these initially because they are scented and can mask the smell if an infection. Not sure how true this was but tbh I don't think my usual brand would have been absorbant enough in the first few days

RainbowTortoise · 20/05/2015 13:58

I have a few packs of boots ones for straight after the birth when they need changing all the time, then moving on to the nature care ones (they sell them in waitrose). They are breathable as they are not plastic backed, if you have stitches the plastic backed ones are not ideal.

OneFlewOverTheMumsNest · 20/05/2015 15:45

Last time I used a variety. I have the ones from mothercare and boots for this time as I found them the best. One thing about normal sanitary towels, I found they irritated my episiotomy scar and made it very sore, even many weeks after - bled for about 9 weeks - so I would avoid them until any damage is healed!

SolemnStollen · 20/05/2015 16:23

Seconding Kotex suggestion to begin with, after that I found Always night time ones much more comfortable.

happybunny2014 · 20/05/2015 16:51

I swore by superdrugs own. They seemed nicest on my stitches compared to others which seemed to agitate my tear. Case of personal preference I think!

strawberry01 · 20/05/2015 16:59

I used tesco, boots and asda ones. I disliked asda the most.

Boots sometimes do them on 3 for 2- I think 3 packs for just over £2 is great.

I now use them on my heaviest days of my period. I took 30 pads into hospital with me and I used about 15 (was in for just under 48 hours).

imwithspud · 20/05/2015 17:03

I used mainly Mothercare and Boots last time round, the ones with wings as I can't stand the ones without, I feel less protected and I tend to leak more. Both were great, this time I've stocked up on Mothercare ones and also have some thinner ones from Asda with wings but I haven't seen them in there since.

Wenglish · 20/05/2015 17:19

Boots or Sainsburys big ones to start
Boots thin ones once it calms down

Use diarydoll pants (see online) they help prevent leaks and you just use your normal pads.

orangutanhihio · 20/05/2015 17:37

Mothercare ones are lovely.

24hourM0MMY · 20/05/2015 18:33

Tena women's pants. Total coverage/protection, chuck out and put another on. No messy knickers.
