Evening all, im due in work tomorrow at 830-6. I work in a busy pharmacy/shop on my feet for four hours at a time (i can sit down if needs be but oftern we're too short staffed and busy for me to take five minutes) i've been having hip and back pain since 12 weeks (the midwife has finally refered me to physio) and atm its unbearable esp at work. I've not been sleeping very well due to the pain, and i really dont want to make a mistake with a patients medication at work. I havent phoned in sick throughout the entire pregnancy, just lumbered through morning sickness and the back pain/leg cramps. Would i be completely unreasonable to phone in sick tomorrow? I now cant sleep with worrying about phoning in sick. Argh! :/

If this is SPD you've done well to get this far, unfit to work is unfit to work, why struggle

For what it's worth, I've had 2 weeks off with hyperemesis and my job have been fine, also work in NHS/medical. You'll be fine to call in sick, they can't discriminate you because you're pregnant, if you knew your job contract there is most likely to be a clause in it, pregnancy sickness at work is a different kettle of fish to normal sickness. Most important thing is looking after you and baby. Take a day off, your body need a break sometimes! Although does sound like (unfortunately) it could be a long term pain so it might be worth getting a bump support band or see what the physio recommends? Eg sit down once every 2 hours or something of the like. Hope you feel better soon xx

Thank you ladies! I just feel so guilty as were short staffed and have a couple off with sickness anyway. Alongside this I'll be spending the day on the sofa with my legs elevated but i could be doing so much more! My hips are very painful when going up and down stairs and standing in one spot (which happens at work) I'll look into a bump support band thank you. I'll see if im brave enough to phone in tomorrow morning! Thank you both xx

It does sound quite like SPD, but I'm sure the physio can help. You could possibly google it and see if any of the exercises to help work, and I'm sure I've heard that a bump support band is what the physio give you if you have SPD/hip problems as I'm at risk in later pregnancy, but please don't take my word for it you're better off asking the professionals. Put your feet up, cup of tea, look after yourself. X

Phone in. I have had 5 days off so far due tp this ( 2 + 3 at different times) as it has been unbearable, mostly due to having overdone it with activity. Physio hasn't really helped but thankfully I have learnt to manage it by pacing myself with physical stuff.

Morning! Well im going to phone in sick at 830 (ive just text my secondary manager as my managers on holiday.) to forewarn her. I've had about 2 hours sleep, and hip/knees are in agony today. Thanks for all the replies xx

Hiya just wanted to say that my pelvic pain has greatly improved overnight by getting a cushion between my knees and a wedge pillow (£7.99 from Babies R Us) to wedge slightly under my bump. I got these on the advice of my physio who said it will really help with keeping good pelvic alignment overnight and it has really really helped.
That and pelvic floor exercises and regular paracetamol have made it easier. Take care and hope you feel better soon.
